El Chino's Robz Realism Sound Mod

Description
(First two video samples recorded using Font's Realism)

Large overhaul for many of the sounds in Gates of Hell. When I first got the game, I was pretty underwhelmed by the quiet gunfire and repetitive voicelines.

I was still a fan of the sound design in the Robz Realism mod from MOWAS2. As a result, I simply brought the sounds from Robz over to GoH. Credits are below.

I mostly did this for myself to improve my own experience, but because I couldn't actually play with these sounds in multiplayer with my friends, I turned it into a workshop mod and made it public in case others are interested. Hopefully some people out there enjoy it as much as I do.

Expect the following changes:
- Replaced most gunfire sfx, from SMGs to Rifles to MGs to 75mms to 152mms and beyond.
- Added more tank crew voicelines for the Americans, Germans, and Russians. The voicelines are sourced from Company of Heroes
- Added more hit noises for tanks. Expect heavier whistling upon ricochets and non-penetrations.
- Replaced most tank engine noises. Robz Realism does not overhaul all engine noises, and GoH has many unique vehicles, so don't expect everything to be changed.
- Revamped explosion noises

What this mod doesn't have:
- I didn't change any sounds that either I thought BWS did well on, or simply don't make that big of a difference. Rocket artillery, handguns, mortars, artillery shell whistling, anti-tank rifles, environmental noises, and airplanes are some of the many things I left unchanged.
- No new Finnish tank crew voicelines because Robz doesn't have them. MOWAS2's Valour does but I don't think they're as good.
- The 20mm Flakvierling, Twinmount .50 Cal, and Quadmount .50 Cal all have unique files that play a loop of gunfire instead of just a single gunshot. Because I only had files for the latter, I left them unchanged.

Further notes:
- I'm pretty sure this mod is compatible with basically any other mod that doesn't already have new sfx or units. In other words, I don't think this mod will do you any good if you pair it with West-81 or Hotmod 1968. However, I tested it with Font's Realism, MACE, and Valour and it seems to work fine (as long as you play one of the base game's factions). This mod works best with other mods that keep the original WW2 settings and factions.
- This mod is VERY, VERY LOUD. I really recommend turning down your effects volume when you play with it. The reason is that GoH has individual sound files for every weapon that play depending on how far away your POV is from a source of noise. Robz doesn't have that, so gunfire pretty much sounds just as loud as when you're next to a tank even if you're halfway across the map. But hey, it cranks up the larp factor to 11.

Credits:
- Robz and crew for Robz Realism (for vast majority of sounds)
- Digitalmindsoft for MOWAS2 (some vanilla sounds were used)
- Pannoniae for Robz Reloaded (some sounds from that mod were used as well)

Let me know if there are any serious bugs I need to address (i.e. sounds not playing properly), or if there's anything you'd like to see added.

Please be aware that I have zero coding or software experience and that I made this mod casually for myself and my friends to enjoy. I'm not a serious modder and I don't plan on becoming one.

what do you *mean* it's loud, it's authentic robz realism earrape

and no, AS2 and robz *does* have sound falloff and you've managed to implement it.... it's just that it's goddamn loud :P

Respect, sounds of equipment and weapons convey the atmosphere of the battle. Author do you have the opportunity to make an adaptation of this mod with Battlefield 1.5.8 2025-6-20 (Realistic Battlefield Restoration) ?
I think this will be the best compilation of sound and graphic effects for the game.

Explosions are finally done. I probably won't do much apart from tweaking things here and there until UK gets added. Hope you guys enjoy it

After a bit of fidgeting, I've added frag grenade explosions to the mod. This is just an early experiment so I know what I'm doing when I'm adding everything else in. Turns out Gates of Hell has an entire folder for grenade explosions, but proceeded to not use it for most grenades. Only German stick grenades actually use the grenade sound files. Soviet F-1s, Finnish M/32s, and American Mk IIs all use the generic HE explosion sounds. I guess GoH decided that frags sound exactly like 47mm HE shells.

Yes, otherwise it will lead to resource desync

do other people need this mod if you want to play MP with them?
Nordic Paws 11 Jun @ 6:18pm
Ok, yeah. I heard that folder was a real pain in the ass to work with.

As for some of the bad machine guns (especially the Maxim), I'm considering changing the sound altogether to something that doesn't bug out so much, so watch out for that too.
