Type-31 Missile Gunship

As the International Union begins it's massive fleet wide modernization across the system, many old capital ships from the "pre-separation" era has been put into their resting place. As such, a new capital ships in size of around 200m in length is required to maintain it's proper fleet operation effectiveness, especially around the Jovian and Saturn region.

With that, the IUF held a design tender for such program, dubbed the "Modern Combatant Program". Initiated in the year 2189, and resulting in more that 11 proposals from various shipbuilding companies and private design bureau. In 2193, the IUF has shortlisted it's selection of proposals into 3 designs. A year later, in the year 2194, the Southern Luna Design Bureau "Type-31" design is announced as the winner.

Initially, IUF projected to acquire up to 92 of such Gunship, however this number has been lowered to 54 units due to the introduction of another class of capital ships named "Type-32", which is proposed to operate alongside Type-31 fleet.


Type-31 has the length of 190 meters, with the hull diameter of 27,1 meters, and a total diameter of 78,4 meters. The ships is armed with 130mm Primary Cannons, 35mm PDC Systems, 4 types of Missiles for offensive and defensive purposes, and Integrated Laser Systems.

The design philosophy of this ship are meant to be modern and future-proof. This can be acknowledge by looking at the numbers and varieties of missiles that the ship carries.

This was seen as "a way forward" by the IUF. Because at this era, it is seen that missiles will be the primary systems for offensive and defensive systems, even for point defense solutions. Hence why all the gun that's fitted on this ships is a modern conventional gun instead of railguns, in which is very popular in the previous generations of capital ships. This changes also makes the ships affordable to acquire, with it's cost projection at only 87.0 Mc per unit.

Type-31 is not only seen as a new modern ship for the IUF. It is also seen as a ship that revolutionize orbital warfare, by changing the doctrine of warfare with it's missile capabilities, reducing the need of close range engagement in a combat to the point maybe there's no need for a direct combat at all, replacing the "high operational requirement" railguns, with modern conventional guns that's way more efficient, lower cost, and has larger munition size (albeit sacrificing velocity and range).
