Raiders Unleashed (Basic)
I WILL RAID! Will You?

Ever found yourself frustrated after going Feudal or reforming your Religion, only to discover you can no longer raid? While the Practiced Pirates tradition exists, it requires staying small.

Raiding can be applied in a more controlled manner. With a Character Interaction, you can raid.
Of course, you may bless someone else with the trait.

Raiders Unleashed (Basic) introduces two raiding traits and a decision to add/remove either.

Features:
  • Character-focused Raiding: Raiding becomes a personal choice through traits rather than a blanket rule
  • Two Raiding Traits:
  • Land Raider: Enables standard raiding, just like Tribals and Unreformed Religions.
  • Sea Raider: Unlocks Viking style raiding across water and rivers.
  • Character Interactions: Easily add or remove these raiding traits through in-game decisions
  • Game Balance Preserved: This method will not cause AI raid spam, preserving a natural game state.

  • Compatibility: This mod makes changes to entries in the following files:
  • Common/Scripted_Rules/00_rules.txt
  • Common/Scripted_Triggers/00_scripted_rule_triggers.txt
  • Added a few basic Traits and Character Interactions.
  • Interaction uses interaction_category_uncategorized.

    These adjustments change the fewest possible file entries.
    It should/will be compatible with most mods.

    If in doubt, load this mod last.

    Why raid through a trait?
    Other raiding mods often enable all characters of certain types to raid, leading to constant AI raids that devastate realm control and development across the world.

    The AI will raid and behave as normal, and will not use the decision to get the traits.

    This mod strives to enhance rather than interrupt normal gameplay and to maximize compatibility with other mods, while hopefully not needing updated every time a new patch comes out.

    To my knowledge, this should not require DLC to function properly.

I have not tested it. I will test it though, because now I want to know. The trait itself is non-inheritable. I don't think the game will crash, my prediction is that the Army will remain a Raider Army until disbanned.

I predict this will follow the same situation as when you are Tribal Unreformed, with a Raider Army raised then pause to convert religion and go feudal, then unpause. I don't know what happens in that situation but this situation should be the same - whether the ruler with the trait dies, or whether you remove the trait after raising the raiders, or whether you just pause, go feudal and convert to christianity, then unpause. In these situations, I believe the current raider army will remain a raider army until it disbans.

I wish there were a good method to delete or auto-disban existing troops.

ty for this mod :) always thought about why there isnt a RP controlled raid mod, this will be very useful for simulating english chevauchées, tho do i wonder what would happen if the current player character with the trait dies, and his heir doesnt have the trait

will the game crash or does the army become normal

There is a character interaction that the AI will not use to give the trait (or remove it). You can use it to give an AI the trait if you want to. All raiding mechanics are otherwise unchanged and AI will continue to behave the way it always has.

pls clarify. does this mean that AI will never use the decision to become a land/marine raider? they will still raid according to the rules of their religion or government?

is this decision only available to the player?

I put in the capability, but did not tell the AI what to do with it. AI will probably use the same logic (for better and worse) as Norse or those with West African Canoes.
