The Shoulders of Giants

Description
Difficulty: Easy-Medium

One of the upsides of this potato body is my newfound appreciation for scale. Running the facility, plugged into all its systems, it was like I was the whole universe. Testchambers piled on testchambers piled on metal and concrete and dead test subjects, all a part of my body. Back then, you were like an ant to me - tiny, insignificant, irritating. But from down here in this fist-sized lump of starch and sugar, I see things completely differently. Now, you look like a really, really big ant.

This was my entry into the Portal Mapping and Modding server's[discord.gg] 'Blind Date' competition, where the challenge was to make a map in collaboration with a mystery partner without communicating. Unfortunately, my partner had to drop out due to technical difficulties, so the only person I ended up collaborating with was... myself. All the same, I'm really happy with how the map turned out. It's easily my biggest map to date, I learned a lot while making it, and the puzzles aren't nearly as weird as some of my previous ones. Hope you enjoy!

Solution

If you liked this, you might want to check out the other Portal projects I'm working on: the huge mod Desolation[emberspark.games] and my Doctor Who crossover Portal Who: Science of the TARDIS, which is still in active development.

I also recorded a timelapse of the making of this map, which I'll link here when I upload it.

Thanks to didokiller for feedback and suggestions on the second puzzle, Ossilia Flawol for their betterp2instances[github.com] project which saved me a lot of time, and as always TeamSpen210 for his tools and expertise.

Outstanding hammer work - much joy after I saw that there was a second "map" instead of a restart. Two fun challenges to solve. Thanks for creating.

great set of puzzles. Initially solved the first one with that ninja cube-catch but by the placement of the dropper I knew that wasn't intended. Came back to it today and after thinking about it more logically I figured it out. Second one was more of an I'll-figure-it-out-along-the-way kinda solve. Both puzzles had a satisfying solution. Visually it looks great too of course and making something appear large without it being boring/repetitive is not that easy.

Genuinely original and very well made puzzles. Quite a challenge for my little pea brain! Plus, it's an absolutely beautiful design. Thanks for creating! :p2orange:
