Realistic Line of Sight [RLoS]

Description
Realistic Line of Sight
This mod aims to make the Line of Sight (LoS) more realistic by decreasing/blocking line of sight through what would realistically obscure your vision.
Forests and treelines will now mask vision significantly, allowing for better and more realistic use of terrain for concealment and maneuver.

The thoughts and considerations behind this mod
I've always felt that trees from forests and treelines weren't blocking vision enough in this game. Units can way too easily see through treelines and other objects that normally would mask your line of sight.
I feel that realism suffers due to this, resulting in being unable to properly maneuver your units through terrain like you would in real life.
As an irl infantryman myself, I prefer the realism of terrain-masks and the proper usage of terrain features for maneuvers, both in recon, assault and defense.
Micro-terrain is crucial for tactical movement, but is not properly simulated in basegame WARNO.

There are some "realism"-mods that includes adjustments to Line of Sight, but they also adjust a lot of other things, and I wanted a standalone mod. So here it is.

How the mod increases realism
The result of this mod is as follows:
  • In general, this mod now gives you more freedom of movement and maneuver-opportunities in terrain.
  • Treelines now blocks line of sight, making treelines much more useful and functions as tactically viable positions and concealment for movements. (There are still gaps in treelines)
  • Line of sight in forests is now decreased, significantly limiting how far you can see into a forest from the outside, as well as from inside-out.
  • If terrain is properly utilised in tactical movement, your units will no longer get eliminated by a unit that realistically wouldn't have line of sight to your unit.
  • Again, if terrain is properly utilised, you should now better be able to advance closer to the enemy positions before both sides spot each other, which is especially realistic for infantry combat, making close combat more frequent now.
  • Terrain now feels more realistic and matters more. The worth of terrain-objects have increased.

Special thanks to ShadowofChernobyl for helping me make this mod, by sharing what he did to adjust LoS in his mod, which can be found here.

As of now, this mod has the same LoS values as his mod, but that may be prone to change in the future, if I feel adjustments needs to be made.

The attached images had to be compressed to fit Steam's limits, hence the drop in quality.
The thumbnail is also just a placeholder and will likely get changed later.

@koken Luckily it's your own responsibility whether or not you want to play with the mod, but have you ever tried looking from the perspective of your units? You'll find that the trees and foliage almost completely obstructs your vision.

While you can sometimes see a little through treelines, this mod is as close as you get to realism - simply due to limitations in the game... The ideal mod cannot be made for this game. There is only *this*, that takes you 90% of the way.

In real life, treelines matter a lot - of course, depending on the density of the foliage/trees. Without this mod, treelines means nothing, and infantry cannot move at all without being blasted by a unit that realistically shouldn't have been able to see it.
This mod enhances micro-terrain as best as it can.

this is not realistic at all. its complelty absurd to assume that any tree line will completly hide an infantry unit from an attentive ovserver esspecially with modern tech

Only thing i think will be weird is the AI and NPC's i dont think were programmed to fight with these changes in mind.

@KPSoulReaper Glad you find it useful.
I have myself come across a few "issues", one being that combat inside forests is a little off, with the sight-range being too short.
I'm looking into trying to address this without messing with line of sight from outside looking in. But I don't know if that's possible, so I'll be doing some tweaking in the near-future.

Testing Right Now.
This really fixes a lot of Issues; so wish normal Vanilla was like this.

Yaaaaa.

This is a big problem for me in WARNO.
The size of the Maps compared to the Range of Units.....
.....on top of the Unit Balance and "Line of Sight" just compounding the frustrated experience.

SD 44 worked so well for me because the Range was much smaller (yes yes, WW2 vs. Cold War Tech.) but still the Range of the Units in SD 44 matched will with the map size.

Anyways,
Thank you so much Meldgaard, very nice work.

That looks awesome. Ruse was really close to that. I feel that these modern "ruses" are quite unbalanced.
