Description
🏹 Kossar Rifleman Unit – Kislev Support Infantry Mod 🏹
"Cold steel won't save you if you've already taken a bullet."

Introduce a powerful but fragile support unit to Kislev’s roster with the Kossar Rifleman Unit – an early-game, low to mid-tier rifle infantry that delivers punishing ranged volleys, but crumbles in close combat.

🔹 Unit Summary:
Role: Dedicated Ranged Infantry

Tier: Low to Mid

Availability: Early game

Combat Style: High damage output at range, poor survivability up close

Mobility: Slow – not suited for skirmishing or retreating under pressure

🟢 Strengths:
High ranged damage output for its tier

Early access makes it valuable from the start

Devastating against exposed or distracted enemy units

Complements Kislev’s hybrid armies by providing focused ranged firepower

🔴 Weaknesses:
Extremely vulnerable in melee – cannot hold its own

Low speed – too slow to reposition or escape once engaged

Heavily reliant on frontline melee or hybrid units for protection

🧠 Tactical Tips:
Use the Kossar Rifleman as a stationary ranged asset behind your frontline. Pair with hybrid or melee infantry to screen and hold enemies at bay. Once safe, they’ll shred enemy units with volleys—but if left exposed or flanked, they will fall fast.

Great for punishing disorganized charges, supporting siege defense, or reinforcing strong chokepoints.

Campaign & custom battle ready
Tested with overhaul and balance mods
Suggestions welcome! Help improve the unit with your feedback.

🎯 Download now and give Kislev the disciplined firepower it deserves!

Always nice to see the common man armed and ready with gunpowder weapons. :steamsunny:

Don't suppose you have any plans to make a Cathayan Peasant Handgunners mod as well?
Stale Memes 24 May @ 8:05am
@SuperRoswil I'm digging the idea! Unit size looks good as well. However, a few things:

One: These Spearfishers don't seem as intrinsically tied to Erengrad as the riflemen for instance. I would suggest adding them to the port chain in general and perhaps even to garrisons of port settlements.
Two: It might be better to shrink the "harpoons" somewhat if you are able to. I myself have no technical know-how about mods, unfortunately, so I have no idea if that's feasible or not.
Three: Are all these custom units affected by tech and army skills?
Four: Will these units be made compatible with Warband Upgrade Ultimate? I don't know who would have to do what to make that happen, but it would be cool.

Keep up the good work, I'm definitely enjoying it!

@Stale Memes Cheers, glad you’re enjoying it!

Great spot on the unit size — I’ve updated it to 90 to align with vanilla units and help offset their weaker melee performance a bit.

I also really liked your idea of tying them to an Erengrad landmark. I’ve been considering using Erengrad as a base for more unique, coastal-themed units , so that fits perfectly with the direction I’m aiming for.

What do you think about the idea of adding unique spearfishermen as a recruitable unit from Erengrad?
Here’s the concept I’ve been working on: Spearfishermen – Coastal Javelin Infantry
Would love to hear your thoughts!

just wanted to let you know that you are doing a great job! Both of your Kislev mods are now a staple in my kislev campaign, keep up the amazing work!
Stale Memes 23 May @ 11:23am
That would be lovely, cheers!
Would recommend adding them to one of the landmarks of Erengrad.
Also, is the unit size in that screenshot for Ultra? 85 seems like a strange number if so. Would suggest going for either 80 or 90.

Hey @Stale Memes, Yeah, I could dedicate some time for Kislev unique artillery. Mortars and regular Cannons sound like great additions too—making them exclusive to Erengrad would fit perfectly with the lore and add a nice strategic layer to recruitment. I'll let you know if i have something.

That's a really cool addition! Are you looking to add Mortars and regular Cannons as well? Could make them exclusive to recruit from Erengrad or something.

cool

@Josh.G Thanks for pointing that out! The icon quality was actually 4× higher than the WH3 default, which probably caused an FPS drop on your system. I've updated them now—it should run just as smooth as the vanilla units. ✅

It happens both when I hover cursor over icons and battle models.
