Description
Now we move on to Zoey, who is one of the most put-together of L4D1.

I've gotten in the mood to refine this mod for release, and here it is. This retexture gives Zoey as much detail as I am able to pack into her. She has new diffuses, normal maps, and phongmasks, alongside an exponent map for her head. No need to worry about this taking up too much space or memory, as it has been compressed without loss of quality.

Unlike our previous survivors, Zoey didn't have any major issues besides an obvious seam here or there. As such, I added more to her. To start, I tackled the biggest grievance I had with Zoey, which is her porcelain-like face. So I made it more human and roughed it up ever so slightly by fiddling with her normal maps, phongmasks, and exponents.

I also took the liberty of adding her freckles back, but only to a slight degree, as faithful retextures should never look too different at a glance.

Her hands also have freckles, but again, nothing out of place. Speaking of her hands, they're in very good shape but very flat, so I borrowed Louis's hand details and placed them on Zoey's where sensible. Her hands now have phong shading.

I gave Zoey's fangs the same treatment as I did Louis and Bill. I shaded her mouth as a mouth's interior should be, her gums have detail, and the AO is redone.

And I am happy to say Zoey's ears are the most normal-looking out of all the L4D1 cast.

Anyway, I did my best to get her hair looking a bit more natural. The way her hair strands were mapped made this process quite difficult, but I am pleased with how it turned out. Her hair strands blend in more with the rest of her hair, and her ponytail strands match the ponytail. Just like Bill, her hair has proper normal maps to give it depth. I also fixed that issue where Zoey's hair wouldn't be covered in bile when spewed on.

I altered the color of her jacket ever so slightly to be less orange and her hairband to be darker and more pale. The logo on her jacket now has depth and some shading thanks to the phong and normal map. Her tank top now has some minor detail as well.

Her zipper, belt, and belt buckle now have a metallic look. Her belt also looks less like plastic and no longer has the issues of her jeans being shiny.

And yes, I gave her socks. No more grimy, dangerously red ankles.

Her laces are a bit less black to show that these were once the laces of regular Converses and they have some depth. And to finish, her soles are far more noticeable, and her holster has a leather finish.

With this retexture, I tried my best to get as close as possible to the quality of L4D2. Hopefully I did my best.

I fully support the use of my work in other projects. If you wish to use my creations, no need to ask, just credit me by linking my mod to yours.

Did you do it?

@ZED I'll probably give in and try out $Halflambert 0, see if I can get past it's occasional visual oddities.

Shame the lightwarps are gone, I actually really liked them because it puts them to "basically indistinguishable from l4d2" quality.

honestly I think either way you look at em, the refined series are wayy better than the vanilla ones by a longshot.

Saying these suck is a bit extreme imo, since I think stuff like the diffuse textures are pretty nice (Louis and Bill especially benefiting from the added detail on them)

But Despair does raise a good point on the normal maps looking kinda crunchy here and there, plus I'd also suggest trying to see how these all look with just half lambert at 0 instead of trying to replicate the effect with lightwarps

Let's be honest, no matter how I phrased it the reaction would have been same.
Nobody wants to hear their shit sucks, but someone has to say it.

@Despair you can be honest and polite. For example:

"The mod would be better off without the lightwarps, as it looks quite bad. The normal mapping is rather extreme, especially on the faces. Normal maps are very sensitive, and they look best when not going overboard. You need to be diligent in checking your work outside of HLMV, as the lighting environment is not the same as the game. You should also add some in-game screenshots."

Nobody is going to learn to improve when they are not presented with brutally honest feedback.
