Description
Don't Hit a Pet Beefalo

A simple and lightweight Client-side mod that prevents you from accidentally attacking your pet Beefalo.

It blocks both standard force-attacks (Ctrl + Left-Click) and the default attack command (Ctrl + F) from targeting your trusted companion, giving you peace of mind during chaotic fights.

The Problem
We've all been there...
Originally posted by A Sad Survivor's Diary:
  • The Chaotic Fight: "We were surrounded by hounds! I just started swinging my spear... and my best buddy ran right into it. I'm so sorry, Beefy."
  • The Farming Accident: "I was just chopping trees near my base. I held down the attack button for one second too long, and my character automatically targeted the next closest thing. It was him."
  • The Boss Panic: "It was me vs. the Bearger. In my panic, I clicked on the wrong furry giant. A moment of silence for Sir Loin."
This mod ensures your loyal companion is safe from your clumsy, panicked, or just plain unlucky attacks... and from your "helpful" friends.

How It Works
The mod uses a simple, reliable, and clever method to identify your Beefalo friends.

  • A wild, untamed beefalo is always named "Beefalo" (or its equivalent in your language).
  • As soon as you start taming it, its name changes (e.g., "Pudgy Beefalo", "Ornery Beefalo").
  • This mod checks if a beefalo's name is different from the default "Beefalo" name in your game's current language. (Multi-language support)

If beefalo.name is NOT the default name -> consider it an ally.

This simple logic ensures that any beefalo that you have a relationship with is protected from your attacks.

The 'I Really Mean It' Override
But what if you *really* need to put your friend down? For science? Because it got sick and you're being merciful? Or maybe you just really, really want that extra meat and horn...

This mod understands that sometimes, tough decisions must be made. That's why there's a built-in override system.

  • Standard Force-Attack (Blocked): Ctrl + Single-Click on your pet will do nothing. Your companion is safe from accidental clicks.
  • Intentional Override (Allowed): Ctrl + Double-Click on your pet will perform the attack. This requires a deliberate, two-step action, making it nearly impossible to do by mistake.

This override functionality is enabled by default. If you want absolute 100% protection with no exceptions, you can turn this feature off in the mod's configuration settings.

Features & Compatibility
Feature
Details
Client-Side
You can use this on any server! The host does not need to have it installed. It works for you alone.
Lightweight
The code is extremely simple and will not cause any lag.
High Compatibility
Should be compatible with almost all other mods, as it only touches one small function.
Configurable Override
You can enable or disable the "Double-Click Override" feature in the mod configuration menu. It is enabled by default.

Enjoy the game without the fear of hurting your most loyal companion!

Sorry for your loss, but thanks for the news..!
We'll also look into applying the prevention rules to ignition.
(such as ignition via torches and ignition magic via fire staffs).

We'll share updates via comments as they are decided and updated.

@Toonz
This feature works for both controller-based force attacks and mouse force attacks. If there are any exceptional device controls, please report them. This mode aims to support all types of control.
