He's in fact a tough guy who just has confronted a lot of horrifying tragedies of Ravenholm, which have left wounds on his psyche; but he volitionally decided to preserve his remaining sanity and unmatched bravery. He never buckles or yields when faced with the cruelty of the undead or of units of the Combine. He strives to defeat them irregardless of the circumstances and of their counter-attacks. He serves as an ingame-living example to us all.
