It's an inside joke from the Facepunch forums from what started as a mistake, thus never changed outside of one brief update that was later reverted.

poor guy has developed mental conditions and thus has to play in to a personality because there is no one else to run to for help with said judgement-impairing personality disorders. realistically, im sure no one is mentally healthy in half-life 2; but Grigori laughs.

The running gag to why Grigori is in the "animals" tab is because he is the "King of Animals" as a inside joke inside Facepunch from Garry.

I know it seems random but thats what inside jokes are.
