Welcome to another installment of my mod series, Epochs!
Epochs is a mod series focused on adding small additions to make medieval/fantasy (but not restricted to that) playthroughs of Rimworld more fun or engaging, or even more scenic.

Suggested mods to play along with this:
Dark Ages: Crypts and Tombs because this mod patches the candles to use tallow!
Medieval Overhaul is the most classic of classics when it comes to medieval playthroughs.

As of now, I don't want to spoil anything else that's planned for the future, so let's get into what this mod adds!


This mod adds only 1 new craftable resources, Tallow, made from raw meat, and 3 buildings that utilize it.








Q: "Is this mod CE compatible?"
A: "Most likely."

Q: "Is this tribal friendly?"
A: "Yes, tallow can be made at butcher spots, the torches need no research, and the only research needed for the hearth is stonecutting, since you need blocks to make it."

Q: "Will I need to refuel the torches?"
A: "No, the torches need no refueling, they break after a quadrum. The hearth does need refueling."

Q: "I encountered an error!"
A: "Send me the logs so I can identify the issue."

Q: "Can I suggest additions or new features?"
A: "Although the mod is considered complete, feel free to write down in the comments."



Sir Van as his Dark Ages series was my main inspiration for Epochs.
SirLalaPyon as Medieval Overhaul was also a huge inspiration.

No fonts were made by me.

This mod is distributed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International, which means that you can use and modify this mod as long as you credit me and others who worked on it.

This mod would be massively improved by making Tallow a valid Animal Product ingredient for Pemmican. Because that's literally what Pemmican is, dried meat & refined animal fat.

@kongkim Eh, not really, especially if you don't have refrigeration yet (and if you're still using torches you don't). When you can't save meat you have to use it quick whenever you get it.

I play a lot of small farming colonies and homesteads with the personal rule to never use refrigerators or freezers (cellars from one of the storage mods are okay, but that's it), and usually end up with hundreds of pemmican while meat is still going bad. Being able to use meat for light and cooking instead of just non-perishable food and a couple cheaper fine meals is a nice plus, and I'd love more things to do with tallow if anything.

I just think mostly meat are more importent then wood.

Does the lack of 1.6 tag actually matter? It doesn't touch anything new does it

@kongkim The ability to fuel them with meat instead of wood. There's a lot of colonies with more meat than wood, like anything cannibalistic, extremly cold or hot biomes, stuff like that.
