ABOUT:
Lynch’s NPCs Essentials is a comprehensive AI behavior enhancement addon designed to upgrade several of Garry’s Mod default Half-Life 2 NPCs. Its goal is to improve combat readability, make NPC battles more entertaining to watch, and add subtle but impactful quality-of-life improvements across various NPC types - all while preserving performance.

This addon features individual behavior upgrades, logic-based decision-making, improved reactions, and fully configurable systems through ConVars. It is compatible with most AI base addons (like ZBase).

Improved NPCs:
  • npc_combine_s
  • npc_citizen
  • npc_metropolice
  • npc_zombie
  • npc_fastzombie
  • npc_poisonzombie
  • npc_zombine
  • npc_antlion
  • npc_antlion_worker
  • npc_antlionguard
  • npc_antlionguardian
  • npc_strider
Note: Not all features apply to all of the above NPCs.
Shared Features:
  • Can hear gunfire and react to it.
  • Can detect enemies from much farther distances.
  • Can regenerate health over time (outside of combat or always, based on config).
Combine Soldier Exclusive Features:
  • Tactical weapon switching in combat, only when appropriate. Secondary weapon is fully configurable. THIS ADDON DOES NOT ADD ANIMATIONS FOR weapon_pistol, YOU NEED AN ADDON THAT MODIFIES THE ANIMATIONS OF THE COMBINE SOLDIER
  • Will place grenades on the ground when enemies are nearby, similar to Black Mesa’s HECU.
  • Includes a fix for the infinite shotgun reload bug.
Metropolice Exclusive Features:
  • Option to disable spawning with the stunstick.
  • Support for ARREST spawnflag (enables arrest behavior).
Rebel Exclusive Features:
  • Rebels will regroup with the nearest player even if not in their assigned squad. (FREEMAN LEADS THE WAY!)
  • Rebels will now move out of the player’s way much more often.
  • Non-medic rebels have a chance to spawn as medics via spawnflags.
Zombie Exclusive Features:
  • More aggressive zombies.
Shared by Combine Soldiers, Metropolice, and Rebels:
  • Can now shoot from much farther away.
  • Increased combat mobility; move more dynamically during fights.
  • Can alternate between walking and running animations during combat.
  • New armor system for damage resistance.
  • Adjustable aiming accuracy.
  • Option to disable flinching when damaged.
  • Prevent friendly fire between members of the same faction.
  • And much more...

Does this mod fix the issue with the armed metropolice idiotically charging at the enemy (as if they are holding a stunstick) like in your deleted better combine ai mod?

i think the uh, metropolice arrest behaviour isnt working as intended

I love your addon, and that you offer convars. Sadly the pure amount of them bloats up my server.vdf to the point that I can not connect to the server any more.
