Simple Animal Gear

Description
Craft simple utility gear for colony animals!

Mod Contents

This mini-mod adds the following gear that can be crafted and fitted to animals by animal handlers:

  • Animal regulator (Vest) - a thermal regulation vest that protects an animal from extreme heat or cold.
  • Animal flak vest (Armor) - a set of body armor that protects an animal from physical injuries.
  • Animal regenerator (Armor, requires Anomaly) - armor based on dark archotechnology that provides limited protection and induces rapid regeneration.
  • Animal vacbarrier (Harness, VacBarrier, requires Odyssey) - a personal vacbarrier that protects an animal from vacuum burn and the cold of space.

All of the above come in small, medium, and large variants to fit different animal body sizes!

Technical Details

Simple Animal Gear functions by applying stat-altering hediffs to animals rather than enabling Pawn_ApparelTracker for animals. Gear can be put on an animal by right-clicking the item with an animal handler selected and then targeting the desired animal. Gear can then be removed by right-clicking an animal wearing gear with an animal handler selected.

Simple Animal Gear is extensible and new gear items can be created by extending one of the craftable XML bases and using CompAnimalGear to link the item to a HediffDef. The linked hediff can then be given HediffComp_AnimalGear in order to make it removable.

Animal gear can optionally have textures on a per-race basis. Simple Animal Gear only includes textures for the animal flak vest and animal vacbarrier for thrumbos by default.

@P|-|1L1PP - I've avoided doing so as that caused a lot of the jankiness when it came to actual attempts to create apparel for animals. I'd recommend looking at those projects if you want something more sophisticated!

Oh thank you so much, i just did a very crude hp boost as if the armors came out super legendary,but i will probably tweak the values you suggest.
I love when you kind modders make it so that things are easy to tweak,very much appreciated:-)

@stecph - The XML actually allows you to control how much damage the gear takes and shut it off entirely if you prefer, as well! <damageFactor>0.25</damageFactor> and <takesDamage>true</takesDamage> are the default field values on HediffCompProperties_AnimalGear and can be changed as you desire. :)

@Aleanna thanks for the reply (and the very nice mod), I am sorry, my bad, I always used the mending mod and i got the mechanics mixed up:-)
I took the liberty to change the HP values myself, I'm a casual gamer:-)

@stecph - Animal gear being non-repairable is intentional, yes, just like normal vanilla apparel. HP scales by size with the large flak vest being the same as human flak vests, but I may tweak that in the future.

Is it normal that the medium only has 150hp and I cannot repair it?

I'd like to see one addition to this mod- just a saddle that increases riding speeds and maybe gives additional carry capacity. Applicable of course only to caravan animals to help make them more specialized.
