I prefer ogg files but mp3s and other formats work too!
If I want the sound to sync with the video I export an ogg from Vegas as well, maybe normalize the volume in sound forge (or other sound editor).
If I don't need the audio to sync with the video I will sometimes grab an mp3 if available (khinsider.com has a bunch of video game music I've used) and convert to ogg in soundforge.
