Geyser drill

Description
You know that feeling.
You've conquered the Rim. You've got glitterworld tech, blasters, and gene-modded supersoldiers...
And yet you still can't move a damn geyser to where you need it.

Eventually, you give up.
You turn on god mode.
You place a geyser by hand.
Because there's no other way.

Now — there is.

Geyser Drill adds a powerful, late-game building that lets you drill brand-new steam geysers into the map.
It's expensive, slow, power-hungry, and risky — but fair.

What it does:

Drills for ~15 in-game days until it breaks into a natural underground steam pocket.
Leaves a fully functional vanilla-compatible geyser.
Emits smoke, trash, and toxic gas during drilling.
May reveal underground resource deposits around it.
Self-destructs after completing the drill — no cheesing relocation.

Key facts:
- Requires electricity to run.
- Disabled by EMPs.
- Unlocks after a specific research project.
- Intended strictly for late-game colonies.

It doesn't mess with map generation or vanilla balance. It just gives you a real, lore-friendly way to get one more geyser — if you're willing to pay the price.

Pairs well with my other mod, Geyser Activity.

Enjoy your game!

Guys, I’ve added a public kanban [tree.taiga.io] board with my and your ideas for my mods. You can use it to track what’s currently in progress. I’m working on this in my free time.

@thesoupiest add to my kanban [tree.taiga.io]

A rare single-use item (like a scroll) that instantly drills a geyser would be rad for medieval playthroughs

@Firestorm I’ll get to it as soon as I finish my next mod. Or I’ll do it in between

would it be possible to have it drill a gas geyser from the vanilla helixien gas mod?

@UltraEmailMan Yeah, let’s leave them in — it’s a very rare scenario anyway, considering the amount of energy and resources required to build one. It’s unlikely anyone would dare attempt it, especially with the risk of raids in space.

Ah, cool. And it does kinda make sense to have geysers on asteroids, since they can have ice that would sublimate at the low pressure and heat from sunlight/human activities, creating steam.

Although said steam would still likely below the common freezing point of water, so you wouldn't really be able to get heat or power from it, but it still makes some sense at the very least, unlike having a geyser on a spaceship.

@UltraEmailMan Yes, there was a bug — it was possible to build one, and then the gravship would have its own geyser! Of course, you can’t place a geothermal generator on it, but it would still heat the ship, which is relevant in cold biomes. For now, it’s still possible to place a drilling platform on a meteorite in space, but honestly, I’m not sure if that should be forbidden — after all, you can encounter an “ancient drilling platform” there. And yes, I fixed the bug — now it’s no longer possible to build a geyser drill on the ship.

lmao that's what I was thinking. I just don't wanna waste that much gametime for it to not work.
