Grid Block

Description
Grid Block!
Explore the world where everything is locked by default! Inspired by a popular Minecraft data pack Chunklock, this mod provides a unique challenge in which you have to get lots of bizarre and unique materials, just to... set foot on the new land? But listen, I tried making it less tedious and a lot more fun with the help of Surprises - random occurrences, which could happen when you unlock a chunk! But be careful, some do come with terrible consequences...

Features
  • Enjoy a varied and sometimes weird pool of items, required for unlocks!
  • If you're feeling stuck, you can reroll any chunk you don't like!
  • Obtain rerolls by defeating bosses or unlocking more chunks!
  • Growing difficulty to make sure the progress doesn't feel boring!
  • 40+ funny random occurrences to experience!

@oliver aiku (continuing since 1000 character limit)
I've really no idea how you got dungeon costs all over, because I just checked and there's total of 3 items from it in the pool, and their weight is extremely low unless in dungeon. I suppose I'll make it even lower so something like this happens less often then, sorry if it impacted your play-through so much!

@oliver aiku, I think its just a really bad combination of unlucky events, as getting duplicate items should be extremely rare because there's a system in the mod that prevents it (you can't get the same items if they're in adjacent chunks, etc). And what you described with chunks getting harder with progression, that's almost literally how it's coded: starting chunks will always have lower costs, then they get progressively harder and harder towards the dungeon (and as you unlock new items). "Easy" costs apply to underground starting area as well. As for your reroll suggestion, I think that making it drop by grinding is a terrible idea, as that will make gameplay feel extremely slow and uninteresting. Besides, each chunk has 10% oh having a "Dice" modifier, which will grant you an unlock when you pay for that chunk, and don't forget there are 3 events that grant rerolls in one way or another.

@instrex i do believe this mod can be made into an amazing mod and genuinely think the idea is brilliant, however the item pools can range far from unfair as an example one grid once wanted me to get spikes which is a dungeon drop when i was pre boss and when i re rolled it rolled into more dungeon items, this was not a grid that far or low this was in the jungle biome on the surface. i feel you cant progress in the mod without it demanding later items in a fairly early stage of the game. if i had to try and come up with a fix i believe the item requests should scale with the character and depth not length. make the surface fairly simple and the starting underground a lil harder. the problem i find right now is that the surface is hard and you can barely get into the underground at all if its not near the start of the map. not only that rerolls arent guaranteed i belive if we must rely off of rerolls let them be obtained in different ways (mob drop, crafting, timed intervals, etc).

@oliver aiku, it's disheartening to hear you had such experience :(
some of the items in pools are indeed challenging and sometimes even unfair to push players to explore alternative paths, and you can always reroll the chunk in question if it's unfeasible to go around. Maybe you just got unlucky?
As for the curse of the night, I'm looking into making biome change events a toggle in config

rlly wanted to like this mod but there was so many flaws and things i feel need to be dressed/changed. some grids are blocked by items impossible to get at the time and it ends up not being challenging and more unfair and unbalanced. also REMOVE CURSE OF NIGHT it spreads so much corruption and is far to common. overall this mod was what made me start up another world as i hoped it would be challenging and make me think outside the box, instead i found myself getting upset by the impossible task they wanted me to do and then ending up not actually being benefiting
