Dignified Empire Names

Description
I've never been satisfied with the default Empire naming rules.

While "Shattered," "Exodus," "Refugee," and such are all accurate descriptions of the state of the Empire faction, I don't think they fit well as Imperial faction names. I don't see any faction that doesn't have the Guilty ideology meme as willingly naming themselves anything like "Broken" or "Fallen," much less the snooty Imperials, who can't have that meme. If anything, referring to the empire as names like those within earshot of Imperial loyalists sounds like a good way to have a bad time.

"Some pissant crashlanders think they can call us a broken empire? They must be deserter-sympathizers. Perhaps we should send a cataphract squadron or two to their hovel to teach them what it means to be 'broken.'"

Apart from the above, "The [color] Empire" is just boring, and I don't think "The Empire of the Sun" or "the Moon" make much sense for cultures that have long since left Earth behind. Good ol' Sol, Terra, and Luna aren't at the center of any faction you'll bump into in Rimworld.

This mod changes the Empire's naming rules to get rid of the ignoble, color, and Earth-centric name types, while adding a few new name types to keep variety up.

Compatibility:
This mod has basically no chance of interfering with any mod that that doesn't also use "NamerFactionImperial" as a defname. The original "NamerFactionEmpire" section is left intact, this mod just points the Empire's factionNameMaker at my new code instead.

Q/A:

Q: Can I add this mod to an existing save?

A: Probably, but it's not going to do anything. The empire's name was set during your world's generation, and this mod doesn't do anything after that.

Q: Can I remove this mod from my save?
A: It's not a good idea to remove mods from saves in general, but this mod should be less risky than many. Back up the save file first, just in case?

@RutraNickers which style do you mean? If you mean the Dynasty-styled names, those pull from the default Imperial last name source (RimWorld\Data\Core\Languages\English\Strings\Names\Imperial_Last.txt).

Using your example, if you wanted to make an Egyptian-styled empire run and didn't want Greek/Byzantine last names like those showing up in possible empire names, but aren't confident about making a full personal mod yourself, you could edit that file to switch it to a list of ancient Egyptian names. It'll then make my mod pull empire Dynasty-style names from your custom list when your world is generated, and as an added bonus the Empire NPCs in your world will also have Egyptian surnames.

You'd want to keep a copy of your edited version elsewhere, though, as the file can be reverted back to default when Rimworld's file integrity is tested or possibly when Rimworld does fix-patches. That way, you can simply overwrite it with your custom version whenever it gets reverted.

great idea! considering i've got an empire-themed naked brutality playthrough on the way, this is gonna go great with *beating the game with nothing* :er_heart:

Hey mate, dunno if it's possible, but could you add a slight change to the naming convention if a certain Style is being used? I've seen in the images that you have some greek god's names in there, but that would not make sense if I forced the empire to use a different style that isn't Sophian (like, say, I wanted an Egyptian-themed Empire using Alpha Memes)

Finally! I was wanting a mod like this since Royalty came out. The Empire’s names were stupid. Thanks a lot!

The Empire are not humble or good Christians in the slightest.
They practice sl-av-ery. They worship the Archotects, the hyper-computers that create all of the really advanced and funky stuff in the Rimworld universe.
They are an authoritarian surveillance police-state with what amounts to a caste system.
So it makes sense that they would be right arrogant pricks, especially the nobility.
