Leugi's Ritual Practices (Pantheon Rework)

Description
Reworks the Pantheon Mechanic into "Ritual Practices". Unlike Pantheons, Ritual Practices may be earned more than once and are not removed from the pool when another civilization picks them; allowing you to establish a collection of rituals for your people to observe. Also renames the existing Pantheons to fit more the flavour of Ritual Practices, renames Mysticism to Consecration and adds new Ritual Practices..

Flavour Changes
  • Pantheons are now known as Ritual Practices. The flavour is less focused on "the specific nature god your civ is following" and more on "the rituals your people are officially adopting as they develop their identity".
  • Because of this different concept, all Pantheon Beliefs have been renamed into historical Ritual Practices with many of their icons changed to reflect their new names.
  • Mysticism was renamed to "Consecration" to further enhance this flavour
  • Ritual Practices remain mostly focused on buffing the Altar building, since this still plays well with the concept.
Gameplay Changes
  • Unlike Pantheons, Ritual Practices are not blocked when another player picks them. Ritual Practices are shared among different civilizations in history, as the focus is no longer on "this god is better than this one" or whatever. Some text has also been changed to reflect this change and flavour.
  • Additionally, you can earn more Ritual Practices when completing research on the Public Life and the Entertainment civics. This allows you to fully customize your rituals and allowing a more varied gameplay evein without claiming. Your people are developing a sense of their own sacrality as the Antiquity age progresses.
  • The AI also gets to pick 3 bonuses over time; and Maurya still gets one extra Ritual Practice.
New Beliefs
To further enhance the gameplay changes and to add more variety in gameplay, 4 new Ritual Practices were added and 2 were slightly tweaked:
  • Anointing Oils: +10% Production towards training Commanders and Great Person Units in Cities with an Altar.
  • Scripture Reading: Altars gain a Codex slot. Grants a Codex after building an Altar in the Capital.
  • Almsgiving Rounds: Altars increase the Resource Capacity of their Settlements by 1.
  • Spirit Houses: +50% Production towards constructing Altars.
Additionally Oral Tradition (now Trail Marking) and Trickster God (now Divination Methods) were slightly tweaked:
  • Trail Marking: +10% Production towards training Settlers, Scouts and Merchants in Cities with an Altar.
(Added Scouts and Merchants to increase the flavour of setting sacred markers over a path like Inukshuk or Apachetas)
  • Divination Methods: +15% Influence towards Endeavors, Sanctions and the Befriend Independent action with an Altar in the Capital. (Reduced the percentage slilghtly but added the bonus to befriend independents allowing the belief to be more useful overall)

If you want to see all the names and icons, you can check this table:

In case you like some parts of the mod but not others you can customize your experience by deleting/renaming specific folders within the mod's files without issue. Namely:
  • To disable the Flavour changes (texts, icons and naming) you can delete the "PantheonRenames" folder. (if you do this the new Beliefs also receive names that fit the old flavour)
  • To disable the Gameplay changes (more than one Ritual Practice and they can be picked by anyone without claims) you can delete the "PantheonGameplaychanges" folder.
  • To disable the new and reworked Beliefs you can delete the "NewPantheons" folder.

In larger maps you might see the AI taking multiple instances of Scirpture Reading. This only happens when all other options are already claimed by other civilizations. This is a known issue and for now I dont have a way to fix it, however it doesn't always happen and most AIs get to pick more varied rituals.

Somehow I've made a Korean translation part for the mod. Test play after self modification is completed.
Check the above zip file; only files affected are included. I think this mod should be able to change all the possible localization texts, since the localization text from the reused Pantheon slots remain unchanged from the original Pantheons' ones.
Also I added some more text replacement in both English and Korean part as I still see word "Pantheon(종교관)" in some in-game dialogues.

How it always should have been, really wish there were a mod like this for 6. Great work as always.

Very interesting -- but it seems not compatible with other languages. I'm Korean and the mod work fine in my game except almost all the names and description is remain as original pantheon translations are. Is there any way for translation? I'm not well known to modding system itself.

I have an idea for a ritual that can be pretty useful to all civs.
"Celestial Ceremonies" which can be defined practicing rituals during a solar eclipse, which can represent practices from Mesopotamians, Maya, Aztecs, Inca, ancient Greek, Norse, etc.
This would give settlements with an alter, a 5% bonus to all yields during a celebration.

Really interesting mod, has come a long way from just a simple rename. I think it still suffers from the basegame problem of some pantheons being much better than others but nothing some further tweaks can't fix - I love Divination Methods including city-states, Trail-Marking is still a little weak but really close to being good (giving extra vision or movement on those units for example). And the @Dipshit suggestion below about moving the unlocks to masteries is excellent. Very excited to see how this one evolves!

@Jefe Pollo It says in the mod description they get to pick an extra Ritual Practice.

How does this work with the Mauryan unique ability?

Just a comment: There is a mod "Better options menu" that allows you to choose some options on other mods. You might like to look that one up so that you can put those three options that you mentioned as a toggle in the game.

Great idea. Allowing for gameplay-specific combos is always a win.
