USS Wahoo

Description
A tier 1 scout submarine based on the USS Gato class submarines widely used in the initial colonization of Europa.

Upgraded with a nuclear reactor and a fully automatic battery buffer system, it allows the minimum amount of crew while maintaining combat efficiency. The lack of airlock and the lackluster firepower is compensated by a much lower cost, making it an ideal choice for new captains seeking to run transport and escort missions.

Play Style
This submarine is relatively small (Slightly larger than the Dugong), and plays like a Dugong, avoiding enemies while using agility to dodge any attack. While the engine is slightly overpowered at a top speed of 28.0 km/h, it has much fewer bulkheads, with no middle walls along the longitudal axis, making it prone to leaking and more vulnerable than the Dugong. While initially built for early game, it appears to be doing fine in middle- and even late-game given it having all of the essential fabricators with a decent amount of storages.

Properties
Class: Scout
Tier: 1
Cost: 5,500 mk
Size: 42x11m
Crew: 3-7 crews (Experienced Crew)
Horizontal Velocity: 28.0 km/h (Base speed w/o conformal airlock, 27.5 km/h w/ conformal airlock)
Descent Velocity: 13.5 km/h (Descent), 18.0 km/h (Ascent)
Storage Size: 20 crates

Armaments
2x Upgradable coilguns, 1x Small hardpoint
1x Electrical discharge coil

Features
3x Auto-targetting spotlights
Battery buffer system (Protects circuit boxes and allow varying load with automatically controlled reactor)
Complete fabricating stations (Fabricator, Medical fabricator, Deconstructor)

Note
The reactor is expected to be loaded with 2 fuel rods and maintained on automatic control.
While this submarine does not have a built-in airlock, an airlock is avaible through a conformal parasitic airlock on the bottom of the ship that can be detached in the navigation terminal.
The ship is not 1:1 scale to the original Gato-class, it is around 1:2.5 to 1:2 on the length, and around 1:1.5 on the height to make it more manuverable in Barotrauma.

There should be an "update" button shaped like an upward arrow next to the "Mod" button in main menu. After pressing that button, the submarine file should be automatically updated and replace your downloaded one. You can open a new save from there.

Should I delete it and download it again?

Friendly NPCs cannot open doors because only crews can access the doors. This is to keep the friendly NPCs from roaming around in the ship outside the crew quarter.

It seems you might have an older version of the submarine, an overhaul was made yesterday, all doors are changed to door with buttons, allowing you to click on the door to open them.

You can see this link on how to change your submarine mid-campaign:

Also, bots can't open the door, and pressing the button is quite inconvenient, I remember I just pressed the door and it opened itself

The airlock would spawned in attached to the bottom of the submarine when you buy / switch to the newly updated submarine.

You can optionally detach it at the navigation terminal via the "Ventral Port Undock" button to free up the firing arc of the ventral turret.

After detaching it, you can always install it back on at any outpost with a submarine upgrade merchant to "replace the lost shuttle".

If you're using the submarine in an existing save, I'm sorry but the game doesn't allow the submarine in any save to be updated.

I just took a look at the "Conformal Airlock", and its just showing the airlock in the picture. Are you supposed to attach this in the subeditor? How do we use this?

The airlock-less design is as intended. Lore-wise, the submarine is built based on the Gato-class construction plan, a WW2 design due to its low-requirement for high-strength material and ease of maintenance without designing a whole new submarine. While game-wise, it has a large cargo space (20 crates) with high base speed (31.0 km/h), it is intended to be used as a transport, and at a low cost (5,500 mk). So for all balance reason, beside its fragility, something needs to be cut off to make it perform closer to the Dugong (sitting at 4,500 mk), an airlock was in place of the oxygen room in the early design, but removing the airlock make more sense to the lore and also better for game balance.
