When you said range is 800m, do you mean turret "targeting range" is 800 or does the projectile literally disappear at 800m?
I think the best option would be to keep AI targeting range at 800 (same as all turrets like you said), but the projectile itself should travel much much further than that. This would give it some added benefitial utility for manual targeting. Best of all, it wouldn't be OP, because the further the target is away, the much harder it is to hit anything with manual firing.
And don't listen to the complainers about the size; BIG cannons are BEST cannons! :D
