Amalfi Peninsula-After Dark Contest European 9 Tile

Description
Two maps for you to choose from to build for the Cities Skylines After Dark Trailer Contest. The winning city will be the new DLC's trailer! Maps built with the requirements in mind as well as a carefully designed terrain to make your city look outstanding lit up at night.

As such they are designed to be all show!! They are not my regular maps, which take gameplay into account and leave you many options. They should make some nice display towns.

European – Amalfi Peninsula
Tropical - Sunset Isles

These were originally both for myself, but I simply not that good at designing a city that looks great, so I gladly share this with you all to use. I don't need any recognition! Your having fun with my maps is all the reward I need! Go win, my friends!!

Designed specifically for the contest (but you can enjoy even without doing the contest!):

+ 9 tile play optimized
+ No mods required (nor allowed!!!!!)
+ Primary shorelines are East/West, so you have a lot of area to view the sunsets and sunrises!
+ Terrain raises in natural looking stages, allowing your city to look great by staggering up the hill (instead of a flat landscape). This will look great when lit up at night.
+ Carefully preconstructed harbor / shipping port land that fits harbors, a road, and a rail station each, as well as space for a few service buildings to make it look great without mod buildings.
+ Hidden areas for water utility buildings (I recommend placing the sewer plants on the harbor area)
+ Careful attention to the roadways and rail outside of the buildable zone (you will want to make the rail and highway inside of the playable area your own

About the contest, from Cities: Skylines:

“We have to admit something... You guys and gals in the community are kind of awesome at making good looking maps and cities. Better than us, to be honest.
Having that said, we would love to feature one of your cities in an upcoming trailer!
* Max 9 tiles
* Max 65k citizens
* NO mods or custom assets
* Attach screenshots to a PM that represent your city, we'll respond and ask for the save file if it looks interesting!
Deadline: September 3rd”

@Shane, Miyagi is the map master, and his guide is excellent, even if it isn't finished yet. I was totally lost in the map editor when I first tried it, but it bothered me that I felt defeated by software. I am a conqueror of software otherwise, so I persevered and eventually started to get the hang of it. Then I found Miyagi's guide, and it was an epiphany. Good luck, and please let us know when your first map is published, if you decide to share.

So first, this is the best to start with, it's a basic guide on how to use the map editor and how the water system works (also, toying around with it really helps figure the thing out, too). http://www.skylineswiki.com/Map_Editor
I am in the middle of making a map guide with much higher-level stuff than is in the wiki, but it's only 3/4 done. It's a lot of work. But what's finished will add to what you learn in the wiki, and I believe I did get to some of the water tips, even. I'm currently learning how to make a video of gameplay (like a let's play), to add the information for the next parts of this guide: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=482232215
Hope this helps! (I have no idea why your connections were broken, but more than happy to look at your map if you publish it in the workshop.

Hey Shane, will be really happy to help you start making maps. About your Atlantis question, I think I know what happened. Whenever you edit a map, while in the map editor hit the play button and let it run. Ocean will go crazy sloshing all over the place and eventually it will calm down to normal. You can speed it up by hitting "reset to sea level" button several times, and running it on super speed. I do that process before you get the finished map, so you have to do it again especially if you edit anything touching the oceans. continued next post...

Can someone tell me why when I edit one of these maps, and start my city, I end up in dept millions of dollars, have no outside connections and sometimes so much flooding it looks like atlantis. I guess what I am asking for is a link to a decent tutorial so I can make my own map.

I haven't worked on Amalfi yet, partly because it's a real challenge, and I want to make it works well with the game. We have a sore lack of mediterranean style housing on the workshop, which is a little sad considering how amazing they would look on a map like this one!

Ah cool! Positano is near the edge of this map. Flippityfloo might be working on the coast from Positano and further east, with Amalfi the town as its center. Should be really nice!

Fantastic! Positano. Been there many a time. Happy memories and great to see that map here.

Oh if anyone can trump me, you can flippityfloo! There's another part of the Amalfi Coast (Amalfi itself), which I prepared through Wilbur and looks like it will be really good, but I have little interest in it at the emoment. Would you like the prepared heightmap to import and start working on? It's got quite a bit of work into it already
