@Shane, Miyagi is the map master, and his guide is excellent, even if it isn't finished yet. I was totally lost in the map editor when I first tried it, but it bothered me that I felt defeated by software. I am a conqueror of software otherwise, so I persevered and eventually started to get the hang of it. Then I found Miyagi's guide, and it was an epiphany. Good luck, and please let us know when your first map is published, if you decide to share.

So first, this is the best to start with, it's a basic guide on how to use the map editor and how the water system works (also, toying around with it really helps figure the thing out, too). http://www.skylineswiki.com/Map_Editor
I am in the middle of making a map guide with much higher-level stuff than is in the wiki, but it's only 3/4 done. It's a lot of work. But what's finished will add to what you learn in the wiki, and I believe I did get to some of the water tips, even. I'm currently learning how to make a video of gameplay (like a let's play), to add the information for the next parts of this guide: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=482232215
Hope this helps! (I have no idea why your connections were broken, but more than happy to look at your map if you publish it in the workshop.

Hey Shane, will be really happy to help you start making maps. About your Atlantis question, I think I know what happened. Whenever you edit a map, while in the map editor hit the play button and let it run. Ocean will go crazy sloshing all over the place and eventually it will calm down to normal. You can speed it up by hitting "reset to sea level" button several times, and running it on super speed. I do that process before you get the finished map, so you have to do it again especially if you edit anything touching the oceans. continued next post...

Can someone tell me why when I edit one of these maps, and start my city, I end up in dept millions of dollars, have no outside connections and sometimes so much flooding it looks like atlantis. I guess what I am asking for is a link to a decent tutorial so I can make my own map.

I haven't worked on Amalfi yet, partly because it's a real challenge, and I want to make it works well with the game. We have a sore lack of mediterranean style housing on the workshop, which is a little sad considering how amazing they would look on a map like this one!

Ah cool! Positano is near the edge of this map. Flippityfloo might be working on the coast from Positano and further east, with Amalfi the town as its center. Should be really nice!

Fantastic! Positano. Been there many a time. Happy memories and great to see that map here.

Oh if anyone can trump me, you can flippityfloo! There's another part of the Amalfi Coast (Amalfi itself), which I prepared through Wilbur and looks like it will be really good, but I have little interest in it at the emoment. Would you like the prepared heightmap to import and start working on? It's got quite a bit of work into it already
MrMiyagi  [author] 28 Aug, 2015 @ 4:18pm
@agusingnavy yup, that's how I planned it, to use those standard mods, because what Colossal Order is looking for is an outstanding city that will look great in a trailer that includes setting sun and city lights. That's why I have the raised terrain... so it will look great from off the coast looking back at the city. For your submission photos, I would use the standard LUTS because they want a city that reflects how the game is without any mod or customization whatsoever. Think of it as an ad

Miyagi, I meant to say earlier that I actually started messing around with Amalfi and other parts of the Italian coast just last weekend, but I struggled to come up with anything worth fully developing, let alone sharing. I bow to you, sir.
agusingnavy 28 Aug, 2015 @ 4:08pm
Ok, no problem. Unlock all, unlimited money and 65.000 cims => "building weekend". Some LUT suggested, in particular?
MrMiyagi  [author] 28 Aug, 2015 @ 3:59pm
XD Well, this map definitely won't fit your awesome interchanges (I actually tried!!). It has very little flat land, so most have to be drawn by hand. That was planned in the design anyway, since it was made with the contest in mind instead of being a very user-friendly map. All show, little practicality.
agusingnavy 28 Aug, 2015 @ 3:55pm
"... Intersections are ok" and interchanges? Tell me I can fit some of my stuff in this map and I'll give it a try ... Nice, as always !!

I can't recommend spending more time on facebook.... unless it's for hanging out in CS groups or keeping up with CO on their facebook page. Other than that, what a time sucker
pieuponieu 28 Aug, 2015 @ 12:10pm
Aha! So this is the contest you were talking about. Looks like I should spend more time on FB (ugh). :) As always, magnificent work. And thanks for the heads up. I see a fun weekend project in my future, but this time I might actually build a city!
