The Scientist Starting Kit

Description
Grants Wilson 5 charater specific items, two of which he will start with at the beginning of the game.

-Wilson's Razor: Starts with this in his inventory. Gives a much cleaner shave than the normal razor, dropping 2 extra loot.

-Wilson's Journal: Starts with this in his inventory. Once a day, Wilson can write an entry on something on the island; so long as he has something to write with. Doing so will keep his mind sharp and recover his sanity. The better the utensil makes a cleaner entry, so he gets a bigger boost to his sanity. He also will comment on whatever he is making an entry on.
. ~ Currently 20 entries that are chosen at random can be said.
. ~ Be careful with Wilson's journal as it can be damaged.
. . . . It is flammable and vulnerable to water damage.
. . . . If it gets damaged, Wilson will be distraught and take a massive hit to his sanity.
. . . . It can be repaired by first using a razor to remove the ruined pages and then crafting with it.
. . . . Repair Recipe: 1 Empty Journal, 10 Papyrus, 1 Sewing Kit (Science Machine Needed)
. . . . Damaged journal's art currently are placeholders untill I have the time to make them.

-Sharpened Charcoal: Using a razor to 'shave' a piece of charcoal will sharpen it for writing purposes. Its very not good on its own though.
. ~ 1 use / 5 Sanity gain / Stackable

-Pencil: Its not pretty, but it writes better and lasts longer than charcoal alone.
. ~ Recipe: 2 sharp charcoal, 1 rope, 3 twigs (Science Machine Needed)
. ~ 5 uses / 10 Sanity gain

-Pen: A proper writing instrument. A true scientist uses ink when documenting his findings.
. ~ Recipe: 1 Down feather, 1 Stinger, 3 Charcoal (Alchemy Engine Needed)
. ~ If playing Vanilla DS, down feather is replaced with 3 winter robin feathers
. ~ 10 uses / 20 Sanity gain

I don't know what to tell you fam. I didn't learn any specific programming languages in college, I learned how to algorithm and the base foundation thats used in *all* programming languages, so learning the exact processes LUA wanted came pretty easily. Biggest thing I can say is Google is your friend. Also I'm sure there's some DS modding guides somewhere if you search for it.

on second thought the chances of a community fix for that many mods are highely unlikely...

damn. u know any good tutorials on lua? eventually theres gonna be a time where imma make a modpack so might as well prepare.

its quite sad if you think about it really.. so many mods all left as dusts on a bookshelf pretty much dead or abandoned... everything i seen so far has that 2013 vibe to it which is edgyness at its finest and i couldnt believe that id hear myself say this but i miss it.

is there no other way other then learn LUA? no community fix posted on the forum? nothing?

Oh dude, I don't know. I can't imagine it changed *too* much sense there are some mods that still work, its just most are likely conflicting with new systems, mechanics, and what have yous, but you're gonna have to learn LUA to even look into this. When I made this mod I was learning everything as I went lmao. When I get the spoons to attempt to update this, its also going to be a learning experience, I'm sure.

question. my only modding experience that i have is with payday 2 and minecraft. how much does the code change overtime? wouldnt playing on an older version of dont starve via steam launcher options fix most of the mods here? i am curious since theres hundreds of good mods that seem to be abandoned and none functional at current versions and i wanna experience them all. hell ill learn modding if i have to just to fix most of the mods or make a temporary solution.

Again last thing I wanna do is make another empty promise and get your hopes up, but I do appreciate the kind words, Numbers, and I'm glad you enjoyed my work. I really do wanna come back to this at some point. Maybe to at the *very least* make it stop crashing your game. Btw cool thing, i thought I had lost everything with my last PC dying on me, but I checked my google drive and my old work for the shipwreck/hamlet update I had planed is still there, so that's something. Again no promises, but we'll see.

not touched in seven years, yet you'll still respond to a random comment?
wether or not you update it or not, you're a champ for that nonetheless. respect.

I haven't touched this in 7 years, so it would be an uphill battle to do so especially sense I don't remember how I went about all this or how DS works now mod wise, but if I get the free time, I can *try* to see about looking into it. I don't wanna fully get your hopes up, but I'll see what I can do.
