[BROKEN] 'AXE' Weapon System

Description
*Unfortunately, Keen has hard nerfed this style of weapon. The AXE relied on ore (like stone) being able to do damage through collisions. Now, ore harmlessly bounces off of armor - regardless of how large the stack, or the momentum of the projectile. Unless Keen decides to undo this change, this weapon is dead.*

*This device is completely mod-free! Also, it's NOT meant to be used as-is in combat! It's meant to be stripped down and mounted into a ship of appropriate size.*

Description

It's here! What was going to be the Reaper MK4, is now called the 'AXE' (Anti-ship eXperimental Eviscerator) Weapon System! Capable of vaporizing an Ifrit Battleship, the AXE is now the most destructive weapon available.

While the AXE does need to be extremely close to the target vessel to function optimally (ideally less than 50m away), this weakness is a trade-off for extreme destructive power, up to 50g of gravity shield penetration, and an almost entirely re-useable weapon. The only part lost after firing is the warhead itself, which is made up of cargo containers, mass blocks, and a couple of batteries. When fired, this warhead detaches from the main body of the AXE, and is propelled using a mass driver into the target. Once complete, the AXE, and the ship it is mounted to, are free to fly off and reload.

Speaking of reloading... the AXE comes with an on-board reloading script! Just flip on the projector and merge blocks (page 2, buttons 8 and 9), weld on a new warhead, and follow these steps:
  • First, if you are not playing with 10x inventory settings, Open up the terminal of the AXE, and locate the 'Program “Reload”' block. Edit the block, and change the “invMulti” value to whatever your inventory size world setting is.
  • Next, connect the ship to a station or other ship with enough stone onboard. With 10x inventory, this is 21.6 million stone.
  • Add the [Transfer] tag to the cargo containers holding your stone.
  • Run the Reloading Script by pressing button (9) on page 1. You may have to run it twice, as the internal connectors may not be locked. This will be done automatically on the first run, if it hasn't been done already, but will require a second run to actually load the containers with stone.
  • Done!

Firing the AXE is also quite simple.
  • Position the AXE as close as possible, but leave at least 10m between the nose and the target.
  • Press (4) to set the gravity generators for a Wide Spread (default; good against larger targets) OR (5) for a Narrow Spread (better against small/narrow targets).
  • Disable the weapon safety by pressing (2)
  • Fire by pressing (3)
  • Popcorn for maximum enjoyment!

If you want to tear it down and put it into another ship, or add on to the system, here are a few tips!
  • Everything from the reactors and back can be safely removed.
  • The groups for thrusters, gyros, and reactors can be safely deleted. All other groups are used by programmable blocks, and should not be altered.
  • Additional gravity generators can be placed and added to the groups as desired, but make sure they are mirrored both dorsal/ventral and port/starboard, so that the fields remain uniform. Failure to do so can result in the warhead flying off at an odd angle.
  • Any of the blocks can be safely renamed without needed to modify the scrips EXCEPT for the following:
    • Spherical Gravity Generators numbers 2, 5, 7, 9, 12, 14, 16, and 19. However, if you do not intend to use the wide/narrow scripts, these can also be renamed safely.
    • The two internal warhead connectors, unless for some reason you do not wish to use the reloading script :P
    • The cargo containers can be renamed, but should contain the [Fill] tag for the reloading script.
  • If you connect the AXE to a vessel with 6 completely unused large reactors (plus any additional power), you can run all of the default generators on max settings. This will increase the effective range of the AXE to 400m (up from ~150m) with 40gs of grav penetration. This also renders the narrow/wide spread scripts relatively meaningless. However, firing at long range with this setup may change the way the stone spreads on impact. It may require some experimenting with generator positioning to get the effect you desire.
  • If you lose the warhead blueprint, please go to the link in the notes section below :)

Notes
  • This device is completely mod free!
  • The AXE is just a prototype, and it is not meant to be used “as is.” It's meant to be stripped down, customized, and thrown into a ship.
  • This version of the weapon requires that you be EXTREMELY close to the target – particularly if you're trying to penetrate gravity shields. If you wish to test the weapon yourself, I recommend positioning the AXE so that it is nearly touching the target.
  • With additional reactors, it can be given a significantly longer range. It's base effective range is about 150m (the limit of linear gravity generators). With ~5 additional large reactors, you can manually set all of the spherical gravity generators to a range of 400m, giving it a much larger effective range. If you do this, do not use the spread adjustment scripts!
  • This weapon was designed with 10x inventory in mind. While it should still be very effective with realistic settings, I haven't tested it yet (will do soon!). Keep in mind that if you're testing this weapon in creative, your inventory settings will affect the mobility of the AXE, as well as the acceleration of the projectile. Either reload the weapon with a smaller inventory using the on-board script, or set your world setting to 10x inventory before testing if you have any problems.
  • If you would like a blueprint of just the warhead, it's available here: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=552296074

Special Thanks

Whiplash141 – For designing the reloading script, and helping me work a way around a major bug.
Tristavius – For letting me use his ship. Sorry about the Ifrit >:3
W4stedspace – Also for letting me use his ship. I broke your ♥♥♥♥, friend! :p

To Do

-Add screenshots of the damage output. Include some of damage output on 10x vs 1x inventory settings.
-There is a bit of lag on reloading with the script. Looking into if/how this can be fixed.\

@Ajax
Unfortunately, I haven't played SE in a very long time, so the scripts for the AXE may not function anymore. However, it may just need to be recompiled. Go into each of the programmable blocks, and save/recompile each of them. If that doesn't fix it, I'm afraid I can't really help you :(

this thing reminds me of a MAC from halo :D i need this is probably the closest thing to an actual mac that even the mods can't replicate without large amounts of high damage projectiles fired right after the other this has got to be one of if not the best thing i have seen as a mountable weapons system ever

You need some screenshots for 1x inventory settings?

After seeing this and the reaper one has to ask. Do you work for Darpa or something?

For anyone who missed it (and is subscribed to this thread), cargo ejection is fixed! The AXE is working again :D

@Eclipse Tech
You certainly could, though it's largely unnecessary. Actually breaking an ore-bomb covered in heavy armor is extremely difficult. Plus, the AXE is meant to be used in close range. Thus, even if the warhead broke mid-flight, the stone would still get pushed into the target by the gravity from the weapon itself.
Eclipse Tech 13 Nov, 2015 @ 8:27pm
You could have a huge shell of light, or heavy armor that can detach right before impact. Kind of like the ones used on rockets as they exit the atmosphere. So you can minimize any damage to the main weapon.
