USS Defiant (Star Trek DS9) World

Description
This is a World file of the original version, posted in 2015. Updated blueprint version is also available.

Craft Description
"The Defiant-class starship, officially an escort vessel, began development around 2367 as a small, highly-powered, heavily-armed warship intended to defend the United Federation of Planets against the Borg. The USS Defiant (NX-74205) was the prototype of what was to be a new Federation battle fleet."
- taken from the Memory Alpha wiki

This blueprint is a full-scale recreation of The Defiant from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Both interior and exterior layout are as true-to-show as I could manage, give or take a block. It is fully operational and mod-free. Yes. No mods.

Dimensions: 172.5 x 132.5 x 30 meters (69 x 53 x 12 large blocks)

Usage Notes
Survival ready (full conveyor+air system; minimal supplies if pasted in creative) and thruster-safe.

Primary propulson method is the gravity drive. Thrusters are intended for docking light maneuvering, and final braking.

Gravity is intentionally narrower to miss the nacelles, as it would interfere with cannons and propulsion.

Cannon Ammunition: Steel Plates seem to be the most economical for the yield, and one of the only items that dent heavy armor. Uranium Ingots do, too, but they eject something like 3000 ingots per shot for a yield similar to 300 plates -- not worth it. Stone and overabundant materials are good against lighter armor.

I don't recommend actually using the landing struts to land.

Vertical passages denote turbolift shafts. Horizontal passages denote jeffries tubes.

In current configuration, if one corridor gets depressurized, they all will. All decks are connected via turbolift. Rooms are independent, though. If a deck becomes depressurized, there are turbolift seals in place. This can be automated if hooked up to air vents -- I'm working out how I want to manage this.

Mod Free
Recommended Mods:
What's a Star Trek ship without shields? If you use Energy Shields mod, I already placed beacons throughout the ship that would be good locations, labeled "ROOM FOR SHIELD GEN HERE" or similar.

Star Trek without teleporters? I recommend Easy 2 Step Teleportation. Beacons already set up in the teleporter rooms.

Design Fluff
(Read if interested. TL;DR? Skip.)
I started the Defiant long ago, but scrapped it due to problems and shortcomings within Space Engineers at the time. So much has changed in Space Engineers, the mod community, and my personal familiarity that I decided to reinvest in this massive time sink.

The two main reasons I chose to build the Defiant in the first place were: it's a smaller ship that could actually fit in SE without overtaxing it too much, and I love DS9 and the Defiant. I wanted to make sure if I did it, it'd be 1:1 and feel just like it.

Unfortunately, there is a fair amount of conflicting information out there. For some elements, I had to make my best guess as to which research is right and what makes sense. I also don't believe in purely aesthetic ships, so I had to be sure it is fully functional for SE use. The four-deck schematic included with the images above should be the most accurate to my design.

Some alterations had to occur due to the Space Engineers translation:
  • What I would equate with the phaser cannons would be rocket launchers, and torpedo launchers would be ejection cannons. I swapped these two for better use of space. Phaser arrays equate to Gatling Turrets; weak, I know.
  • For lack of a warp drive, I installed Jump Drives instead.
  • I took complete liberty with jeffries tube layout, though entrances are still placed in proper locations.

Paint Scheme is altered because painting it a certain way makes it look "too minecrafty." Also, saturated colors are used to mask the ugly mandatory heavy armor pattern.
Primary White: Hue 0; Sat -100; Value: 100
Red: Hue 0; Sat 100; Value: 35
Blue: Hue 207; Sat 100; Value: 0
Yellow: Hue 44; Sat 100; Value: 35

There is unused space in a few areas. I'm still thinking about how and if I want to use it.

No automatic doors. I thought that'd be kind of ridiculous for most doors, but I may rig a few to auto-close.

I don't plan to bring vents to every room (namely crew quarters and other tiny rooms).

To Do (or at least will think about):
  • Repaint interiors, or some interior.
  • More programming and/or setup.
  • Create CMU units.
  • Find decent places for decoy blocks.
  • Improved airlocks and bays.
