PvP - Hyperion - Class Frigate

Description
Here we have a IMDC 'Hyperion'-class Frigate made by JD. Horx. This ship is a modified version which was modified for use by The Soda Society .

To make this ship PvP capable serveral changes were made.

- Decoy launching system
- Turret Repair System
- Jump Drive
- Projector
- Extra Armor in vital areas

This ship is a mix of heavy and light armor which greatly reduces the weight. JD's original design incorporated feature and surprisingly this ship can take quite a beating, but by adding the decoy and repair systems, this ship is a force to be dealt with.

For the purposes of PvP the Hyperion work best in groups of two to three ships.

To properly use this ship in combat to will advance towards the enemy, begin rolling the ship and creating decoys, each time you release decoys slow down a bit, by the time you are in weapons range the enemy is dealing with a mess of decoys which keeps enemy turrets busy. This is what give the Hyperion PvP Frigate its edge.

Even though the re-balancing of thrusters makes this ship less responsive as it used to be, its still a good PvP ship.

That makes sense :) I am looking to do smaller ships as well. Trying to find some people who are very good at external ship asthetics like Horx, to work on a new smaller project.

A lot of PvP tactics comes down to play style. I prefer to build ships that are 1/2 to 1/4 the size of the Nestorious these days. I do this mainly because I can build more of them, which allows me to have extra ship on stand by that I can jump in if I get taken out. Plus if I'm playing with a few people several small to midsize ships can generally take on and destroy a capital ship, while losing a few along the way.

The Nestorious is designed to be a heavy hitter that deals catastrophic damage to whatever it's up against. But if it takes severe damage it's out of combat for quite a bit. Unlike my cheap throw away designs where if we lose a ship oh well, and if it's salvageable that good too.

Nothing more annoying than an enemy that has plenty of ship to throw at you.

Most ships wont survive a few good passes vs equal number of (missile) turret. But yea :p Valid point regardless.

The rockets are the main firepower, in Nestorious’s case. It flies/performs in combat like a heavy fighter. The missile turret are just for point defense vs small ships, player made torpedo, etc.

Look forward to seeing more of your pvp redesigns!

I agree that Gatling Turrets are weak against heavy armor, but they are great at taking out turrets, thrusters, cameras, etc... A few good passes with gatling turrets can render an enemy ship defenceless and cause it to limp around the battlefield, which make it easier for the rocket/missile ship to go in for the kill!

I will add- player made turrets are great but I still avoid mixed grids in multiplayer. I am allergic to clang

Gatling only work vs fighter and light armor. Missile turrets work vs anything. ;) Ive done a ton of damage testing. Gatling are useless in pvp vs heavy armor

Yes and no, in a static engagment (one where the target is not moving) a small fighter is idea. In a giant furball of a battle between ships that are jockeying for position having a ship dedicated to gatling fire can be quite effective if used properly.

A well built gatling ships can shred fighter squadrons if employed properly via shear volume of fire.

Now Whiplash has been experimenting with PMT (player made turrets) these are lethal as fuck to large and small grid ships, and accurate as hell depending on the user.

Wouldnt a small fighter with gatlings be sufficient to snipe turrets?

Yea I've seen the new ship you and JD have put together. It's a good ship, but damn it's expensive on the ammo, all those rocket launchers and missile turrets. The gravity drive make the ship a true combat threat. I would recommend build it a sister ship that focuses on gatling base weapons. A good strategy would be to lead with a gatling base ship to strip turrets, then finish the job with missiles and rockets.
