Atmospheric Territories

Description
Mod is broken: Left up/available for anyone that wants to continue it. Just give credit where due

Mod ID: 2288e458

This mod aims to revise all environment lighting associated with power nodes. In addition to eliminating the red lighting, it takes things a few steps further. The lighting for each location is now more dynamic and changes based on which team controls it (based on the number of built structures). Lighting now changes even when power nodes are Unsocketed. As aliens encroach into the map and spread infestation, the lighting for those areas will slowly "bleed" off until it is much darker than normal. The designed intent is to make the Territorial-Boundires very clear and distinct, increasing the atomosphric qualities of NS2 and making it easier / more obvious for Rookies to realize they're in hostile territory.

This effect creates clear delineations between Marine and Alien controlled territory. Proceed with caution Marines, grab a adventure-buddy and turn those flashlights on, you’ll need them.

Disclaimer: This mod is definitely a work-in-progress and doesn't promise feature perfect qualities. It's effectively just prototyping an idea. It also can have an indirect impact on the game's balance.

Known Issues:
  • General mod incompatibility (likely won't work with other mods, for the time being)
  • NOT Compatible with NSL lighting / maps!

Interesting concept but ultimately it just looses depth and immersion which I know was not it's intention. Although it was added to vanilla, it like many things need to be corrected by mods to correct the loss of immersion the new lighting ultimately created. Hopefully a comfortable middle ground will be found in the future because the lighting mod has potential still. It just needs balance so as not to loose the immersive qualities that attracted people to NS2 in the first place. :tsalogo:

Well, I failed to realize that you are both on the trello and aware of Samus already lol... I also failed to realize that Samus is leaving so there is no way for you two to work together; My apologies for being so daft...

Alright, I just wanted to make sure you saw that he is also actively working on this.

@Sam Yup, well aware of what Samus has done. As my first comment stated, this started based off the work Samus did. I had to revamp / rewrite a lot of it to make it work more dynamically though. It's still originally based from his work though. Credit given, where credit due.

So, heads up, I just checked the trello for the CDT and it says Samus is working on this: https://trello.com/c/mCbwg2Qt/947-experimental-lighting-changes

You should talk to Samus and maybe you guys can work together.
