Why You Shouldn't Play Versus As a Noob
By swift
Hello Left 4 Dead 2 community, Ghost here with another guide, explaining my thoughts why a new player should NOT jump into versus. If you agree or disagree with my point of view on the subject, please let me know in the comments!

Why You Shouldn't Play Versus As a Noob
1: Being inexperienced in a competitive mode
Unless you're facing friends, being inexperienced in a competitive mode is very, very frustrating. If a team full of veterans take on a team full of noobs, the outcome is pretty obvious. Neither side will have fun at all.

2: Versus is the most toxic area in L4D2
It is an absolute fact that versus is the most toxic and unfriendliest area in the entire game itself! Making even a tiny mistake can trigger an angry player, causing you to be votekicked. Even if you do not get votekicked, you'll play a full game seeing all these players insulting each other, making you believe that the whole game is toxic and playing this game is a bad idea, which ruins everything for you entirely.

3: You'll get votekicked a lot
Sometimes in the lobby before the game ever begins, you WILL get kicked from the session because of your hours! People check stats all the time to make sure what game they're about to get into is truely competitive and fun. A tip I can give to avoid being kicked in lobbies is setting your profile private. If you dont know how already, go to profile, edit profile, privacy settings, and set profile viewable to friends-only. However, this won't protect you once you head into the actual game.

Like I said before, even a tiny mistake in-game can set someone off and votekick you.

4: You need to know everything about the campaign you're in
If you don't know where to go to progress in the level, versus is NOT for you. Even if you don't know how to set up great attacks as a special infected, you need to absolutely know where the survivors are going or where you're going as a survivor.

If you don't know the campaign you're in, you WILL get lost and most likely killed off by the enemy infected.

5: Nobody is having fun
Look at what I just explained:
The votekicking
The unfair matchups
The toxic community
The votekicking
Not a lot of people want that at all! If you just play campaign and at least learn the basics of the game, everyone can have a great time and versus can be a fun gamemode. I'm not going to speak for all here, but most veterans don't want to waste their time stat checking, votekicking, etc. They just want a competitive gamemode like the game introduced the gamemode to be.
Solutions to this
A friends-only lobby. Make some friends, invite them all to a versus game and just have fun! I'm not saying that you shouldn't play versus no matter what. I'm only referring to the subject that most people are hating on this game for, and thats pubs.

Trust me, until you fully understand the game mechanics of versus, sticking with friends is a GREAT idea.

@HK-47 nice gatekeeping. let people do what they want, it's an old ass game. it's not even competitive anymore. i'm a noob and i have never had any of this happen. maybe you're just a salty vet at the game.

Tbf, this game still is toxic. But what competitive online game doesn't have that? Just play. I've a fair bit of time in L4D over the past decade, so I know what I'm doing. But there's always always always better players. Learn from them, even if they are toxic.
