Tigershark Helicopter

Description
This is the helicopter version of the Tigershark vehicle submitted for you to test. It uses the wings of the aerodynamics mod to fly and therefore doesn't need thrusters. There are 2 small forward thrusters, though, to be able to reach top speed ("plane mode"). Read the instructions in the discussion for info like operating this heli and how to reach top speed.

The flight performance is rather low due to the limitations/problems the game has with this rotor setup.
The advantage of rotors made of wings is the high battery endurance. With one battery this 38 ton-heli (empty) can fly for more than 20 hours when being remotely controlled and not using thrusters !

Beware that this is still some prototype. The FlightAssist script has been enhanced by the RotorAssist module enabling hovering now. The controls for this module can be found in action bar 4. The first three control bars are not changed and the RotorAssist module is off by default in case the simspeed will drop too much on some PCs.

Action bar setup
Ctrl-1 (Take-off and landing)
1 - Hover mode (use this mode to take-off and land).
2 - Tilt wings and landing gear. Toggle between 0° (flight mode) and 90° (landing mode)
3 - Toggle rotor pitch between 0° (flying fast or dropping with 4+ m/s) and 15° (climb with 8+ m/s initially)
4 - Switch connector on/off (switch off for take-off)
5 - Toggle connector lock
6 - Toggle autolock of the landing gears
7 - Unlock the landing gears
8 - Downward camera view. The camera is right behind the connector.
9 - Open/close cockpit

Ctrl-2 (Flight)
1 - FreeGlide mode (use to accelerate/decelerate when using thrusters)
2 - Roll mode (use to pitch up / down the nose at your will, script controls rolling). You will use this for a flight behaviour closer to what you expect from a heli.
3 - Toggle rotor pitch between 0° (fast flying or dropping with 4+ m/s) and 15° (climb with 8+ m/s initially)
4 - Forward camera view
5 - Backward camera view
6 - Downward camera view
7 - Turrets on/off
8 - Thrusters on/off
9 - Rotors on/off (rotation of the rotors)

Ctrl-3 (Systems)
1 - Rotors on/off (rotation of the rotors)
2 - Enable/disable the FlightAssist script (default: on. Disable it to see how the heli behaves without script support)
3 - Thrusters on/off

7 - Open/close cockpit
8 - Previous screen mode. Available modes: Hover info (default), Transpose and Vector Assist (artificial horizon)
9 - Next screen mode

Ctrl-4 (RotorAssist, off by default)
1 - Rotors on/off (rotation of the rotors)
2 - Descend with 10 m/s
3 - Descend with 3 m/s
4 - Keep altitude
5 - Climb with max. rate (8 m/s)
6 -
7 - Open/close cockpit
8 - Enable the rotor assistant (this is independent from enabling/disabling the flight Assist script)
9 - Disable the rotor assistant (this is independent from enabling/disabling the flight Assist script)

Ctrl-5 (new: RotorAssist cyclic pitch)
1 - stop pitching up/down
2 - pitch nose down
3 - pitch nose up
4 - stop rolling left/right
5 - roll left
6 - roll right

Technical data
Mass: 38 tons
Maximum altitude (empty): 6000+ m
Payload: 30 tons (max. recommended)
Climb rate: 8.0 m/s initial
Speed: 25 m/s @ 15° pitch

75 m/s @ 0° pitch (with thrusters)

Known Issues
(1.123) Locking even just one landing gear on a grid will cause the heli to explode. Who needs warheads if landing gears do a better job ? :-p
Locking onto a planet surface is ok.

Mods
The Tigershark Helicopter uses a modified version of the Flight Assist script (former Hover Assist) of Naosyth as you can see in the action bar setup.

The S-Modified Turret Mod of Sektan is optional. I added turrets to try how they fit best and to test how a slow hovering copter performs against pirate drones. Removing this mod won't break the heli.

You can use the new DX11 version of the Two-Ended Motors instead of the original one.

Sorry, currently I'm not working on helis and it may take years until I finish the rotor script. Other objects, other games... ;-)

There's no hidden thruster to create lift. Only two small thrusters for higher forward speed since the rotors are limited to 25..30 m/s. But you can switch them off or remove them.
