Operation Reclaimed Might, 2015

Description
Russia vs. Islamic State
Date/Time: 7th October 2015 / 00:00:00 Zulu
Location: Syria
Playable Sides: Russia

Background

Russia says it has launched rocket strikes on Islamic State group targets in Syria from warships in the Caspian Sea - about 1,500km (930 miles) away. Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said four warships fired 26 sea-based cruise missiles at 11 targets, destroying them and causing no civilian casualties.

The missile attacks came from Russia’s fleet in the Caspian Sea, which borders Russia, Iran and three other littoral countries. The precision weapons hit all intended targets. The attacks required cooperation from Iran and Iraq, as the missiles had to travel through their airspace to reach Syria. The Russian Defense Ministry said it had worked with its partners to plan the flight path so that the missiles traveled only over desolate areas and didn’t pose any danger to civilians.

Four warships of the Caspian fleet were involved in the missile attacks, the Gepard-class frigate Dagestan and the Buyan-M-class corvettes Grad Sviyazhsk, Uglich and Veliky Ustyug. They fired cruise missiles from the Kalibr NK (Klub) VLS launchers. The missiles used are capable of hitting a target within 3 meters at a range of up to 2,500 km.

Added Historical Russian Army Brigade to the Latakia Air Base. Added Turkey retaliation in the case of a Russian aggression against Turkish units. Other improvements and minor tweaks.

Updated with a fix to make sure objective events appear correctly. Disabled some doctrines to prevent Su-24 Gun attacks. Tweaked Weather to make it more historically accurate. Adjusted some events. Changed a few loadouts on air units.

Hey Mr. Novak, just a heads up that the latest update (1.11) seemed to have broken your mission. After 2 minutes 17 seconds, the Latakia airport suffers serious fragmentation damage resulting in the destruction of 10 units.

Nice mission!

I like the variability - it can be played as a quick cruise-missile test, or completionists can aim for as many of the secondary objectives as possible... And they get pretty tricky. It took three or four attempts to get a balance of score and number of targets eliminated that I was happy with.

A couple of very minor suggestions/complaints (POSSIBLE SPOILERS):
- The pre-set mission waypoints aren't named. It would really help with map clutter if they were.
- In the mission briefing, point out that there are no civilian/neutral ground targets (or add some). I wasted quite a few planes trying to identify vehicles!
- Perhaps give a greater sense of how important the secondary targets are, so the player knows what risks to take with their air assets.

Those points are only really minor though - this is a solidly-made mission, with good replayability!

Yeah at least people are appreciating your hard work. But from making missions for Arma 3, I found feedback and even "after action reports" were very important.
