However - My idea would be - build a ship that comes apart via merge blocks - the front section docks with the "large grid" weapons. then the rear drive section merge docks with front section.
could use a little "tug" ship on each section to help assist docking. Or even dock each section to pistons? then the pistons push the ship back together (or close enough for merge blocks to merge)
though I do still like your ship design :)
Alternatively, just build this: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=536895023 It's a better ship that does virtually the same thing. It's more expensive, but goes faster, has more firepower, is tougher and is much easier to build in survival.
