[Particle] Rope

Description
A friend of mine proposed me to upload this, so here we go. In order to make this particle work you should probably read the description. This is a simple particle rope, that can be used for connecting things. I won't recommend using this for tying up something - try a model rope instead.

1. Posing the rope.

The easy one. The rope is a curve between controlPoint0 and controlPoint1. Just move the latter in the right place and you are good to go.

2. Changing the material.

You should instance your particle system, then edit it. The reminder is: you should change 'material' property in 'System Properties'.

2.1 My rope is visible through other models!

Your chosen material uses parameters that make your particle do that. Choose a different material or edit your current one by removing such property. The default material is from the HUD, so it will be drawn on top of everything. No, I won't change the default, as I have no access to SFM no more.

3. Make rope curvy.

A completely optional thing. While editing the instanced particle system, look for 'Movement Maintain Position Along Path'. Property 'bulge' controls the curvature.

However, if property 'bulge control 0=random 1=orientation of start pnt 2=orientation of end point' is zero then... yeah, it will bulge the rope in random direction. Make it 1 or 2 and rotate the effect with either of control points. I recommend 1 and then rotate controlPoint0 into the '0 90 0' angles for normal gravity bulging.

You also might consider changing 'mid point position' to adjust the curve.

4. Changing the size.

You can change it in initializer 'Radius Random'.

5. Why there is 'render_animated_sprites'?

It's toggled off. Toggling it on may help if you want to see the points, which are key points for rope connections.

6. I still don't know how to make it work?

If you're struggling with any of these points, you might want to watch a tutorial on particles. Otherwise, feel free to report a bug.

7. Can I use your thing in my poster/video/whatever?

Yeah, just don't sell this particle. I doubt someone would buy something like this anyway :D

To whom it may concern, a good rope material to use is: cable\rope.vmt under the hl2 Mod Filter. It looks like a standard rope and isn't visible through other objects. It took a while for me to find it, and so I thought someone else would appreciate it.

Other than that, this is a super cool and helpful way to use a rope in SFM!

Should the rope be appearing from the moment I insert it into a shot? Or do I need to go to the Particle System Editor? I can navigate up until the moment I find that little white circle icon with the dots; from there, I don't know where to find the .psf file I need for the rope to actually appear visible.
