This mod gives units a small bonus to their effective armor when they get shot through cover.

While this applies to everyone (both aliens and XCOM), most people will consider this to be a buff to XCOM, since it makes you less likely to get one-shot out of full cover. Is that really a bad thing, though? You decide.

The bonus is configurable, with a default of 0.33 DR for low cover, and 1.0 DR for high cover. Fractional DR applies probabilistically, so that means that low cover has a 33% chance to reduce damage by 1.

Compatibility Notes
This mod overrides two weapon damage classes:
- X2Effect_ApplyWeaponDamage (for normal damage from sidearms/grenades/swords/etc)
- X2Effect_Shredder (for damage from primary weapons)

As a result, this probably isn't compatible with mods which overhaul weapon damage mechanics.
Any modded abilities with custom damage formulas won't break the mod, but their damage probably won't subtract DR.

UPDATE:
This should now be compatible with most UI mods, including perfect information. As a bonus, the damage popup now distinguishes between cover DR and armor-based reduction. Thanks to -bg- for his idea of how to do that.

UPDATE 2:
Added additional config variables to allow DR proportional to incoming damage. eg. you can make high cover absorb 50% of all damage if you want. These are disabled by default.

UPDATE 3:
DR does not apply to grenades which do no environment damage (such as gas, fire, etc.)
Added an INI option to remove DR for destructive grenades as well.

I started a new game recently (years after my first). And just wanted to say that I still now fully support the concept of this mod and that the concept should be considered hopefully in any new Xcom games.

Many players mention how taking full damage in full cover lowers the benefit of tactical effort. Others could say, rightfully so, that a target could be hit in the head even in full cover. My response would the game still allows critical hits, which does represent a deadly hit even while in full cover (though, logically, the probability of a crit should be reduced when in cover).

Is this damage reduction ignored by Armour Piercing Rounds? It would certainly be more realistic if it does, and make that once useless item much more valuable to have.

Works fine, but I dislike how it works with grenades. If a throw a grenade behind an enemies cover, he still benefits from the armor granted by cover (even though the grenade went behind the cover AND destroyed said cover).
