How to Avoid Being Kicked
By swift
Hello L4D2 community, ghost here with a guide on how to avoid being kicked from matches as a newcomer. We all know that being kicked is pretty frustrating, and even more when you don't even know why you got kicked in the first place. This guide will give some tips on some things to look out for so your chances of being kicked will be decreased.

How to Avoid Being Kicked
1: Always stick with your team
This is probably the most obvious point. Always stick with your team and make sure you're moving at their pace. Don't go too far and don't lag behind. This is even more of an important thing to do in competitive gamemodes such as Versus. Enemies from the other side can get you in anyway at anytime if you are not careful. So just stick with your team so you don't cost them their points for the game and you won't get kicked.

2: Try not to be annoying
What do I mean by annoying you may ask? This usually includes spamming (binds, text, or mic), constantly slowing the team down, constant friendly fire, etc.
Try and cut those a bit down so you can have a better chance in staying the game.

3: Listen to your teammates and veterans in game
Teammates are teammates for a reason. Work with them as a team so you can win! If they feel like you're not listening to their attack strategy that can seal the deal in winning the game and you totally blow it, you will be kicked no questions asked. Veterans also give out great advice, so make sure you listen to them as well.

4: Set your profile to private
People will usually in lobby check your hours before the game begins so they can make sure they're having a fair match, or just not having any newbs. If you have like 30 hours in a versus lobby while everyone else has 500, then you will be kicked. However, if you just set the profile to private, you won't be kicked from the lobby, but you're gonna have to hope that you can keep up and listen to the team so you won't get kicked in-game.

5: Play the game a lot
Playing the game more on single-player or with friends will give you more confidence and overall knowledge about the game. This can help prepare you to play some online versus or campaign. If you played with your friends and single-player a lot and you have enough skills, you will not be kicked.
Conclusion
I am open to feedback, as this is a small guide. I will be adding a lot more points along the way as well as yours in the comments. I hope this helps newcomers feel more relaxed and just go out there and try their best. Everyone gets kicked, but this guide will help decrease the problem. But just note, there will be ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ who will kick you STILL no matter what, so don't go on the forums and complain. It's only giving them power, remember that. I srsly lost hope for the Versus community, 3, 500 hour players kick me a 3,000 player out of versus.

Also a team should try to adapt to help the weakest/slowest member before trying a votekick. I mean, unless they're the worst/slowest/dimmest/most whiney player you've seen recently, then you shouldn't *have* to kick them right away. If it's VS, though, people are going to want someone that can keep up/work with the team. People need to listen, and adapt to the needs, and limits of their team more, or else they'll keep having the same trouble. Whether they're the person getting kicked, or the people doing the kicking... If all else fails, just play singleplayer, or friends only.

@Apply: Well, sometimes people have a group of 4 players that know eachother, and one of them disconnects, crashes, or some other inconvenient thing. Some other unknown joins and takes their place? They want their friend back that's rebooting, or rejoining, or w/e. It's not always because of something you did.

This is pretty much useless. You can be kicked for the most retarded reason or for no reason at all. I got in a team full of russians, and they found out I wasn't russian so they decided to kick me. Having private profile can get you kicked.

Keep your profiles public. I havent seen someone kicked for having a private profile but it's jsut a dick move to make it prive: people check hourse for a good reason - you should have atleast 100 hours before you try versus

wait so some guides tell you to keep your privates private. Some say to keep it public. Steam you are giving me conflicting messages here

>> If you can't play the game without kicking someone, play single player.

Same "logic" can be applied to the other side -- if you can't play the game without being kicked then play single-player.

Rationale:

From math you (hopefully!) know that the number 3 is greater than the number 1 so the right of 3 people to have a fun game trumps the right of 1 person fucking it up for everyone else.

Don't be that 1 person and you won't be kicked.

For those who can't comprehend such abstract concepts without analogies, imagine going into a gay club and then complaining that there are gay people inside and that some of them want a piece of your butt.

If you still don't get what I am saying -- when you join a group of other people (for whom you can safely assume that they know each other better than they know you) be it in game, or at the party in the club you should blend in, not stick out like a sore thumb -- don't be that special snowflake.
