Yankee Team, 1966

Description
(for users with the Chains of War expansion - if you do not own CoW, check my workshop for a version of the scenario that does not require it!)

Welcome to the Gulf of Tonkin Yacht Club, commander!
Operation Rolling Thunder continues apace for the Navy. For the next 24 hours, you will be overseeing air operations for Task Force 77, on station at Yankee Point and conducting strikes on North Vietnam. The targets for today, located in the USN's area of air operations at Route Packages 2, 3, 4 and 6B, have just been assigned with direct oversight from the White House. It is sure to be a long day.

This is a dynamic mission which makes extensive use of Command's event scripting features - your strike force and starting conditions, your targets, and your enemy's SAM defenses (and to a lesser extent MiG patrols) are generated when you start the scenario, and are sure to create a different experience every time you play. Rather than accurately recreating any specific action, this mission is meant to put you in the shoes of the air commander, always facing some uncertainty and risk. Your task force of 3 carriers will be picked from a combination of a total 9 ships, each with a historically-accurate squadron roster from mid-late 1966.You will command the air groups of the carriers (though not the carriers themselves), which are doing their turns in the strike line at Yankee Station today. The first is already on station for its 12-hour shift, while the other two will arrive for theirs 6 and 12 hours from now. You'll be choosing the targets, arming the planes, and sending them into the North. Good luck!
(This scenario will play differently each time - try it more than once if you like it.)

Will this fan favorite scenario be updated anytime soon? A community scenario pack update is supposed to come in June/July and there's some reported bugs for this under the entry for it in the Command Modern Operations Workshop explaining some of the issues:

https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1910093470&searchtext=yankee+team

It would be a shame to have this become a scenario that just sits deprecated in the Community Scenario pack not working.

Do you think you might ever take a look at this and make sure it's running ok in the latest version and putting the update in the Community Scenario pack thread on the Matrix forums so others can enjoy it in the futre?

@skySG1 - that is actually almost the default SA-2 battery (and most other SAM battery) behaviour in CMANO when they're on an AI side and unassigned (assuming that side has default EMCON set to keep radars silent)! The main things I've changed were:
-ROE: allow targets of opportunity
-WRA: reduce max engagement range for most types of air targets to 10 miles; reduce number of missiles per target/number of batteries per target.

The other thing I did was to give all of the SA-2 batteries some additional ammo.
By default, they launch more missiles (3 per launch) at ranges where they're easily evaded by aircraft without needing player interference. By reducing the engagement range, dropping the number of missiles launched per attack, and increasing the number of missiles carried - I made the SA-2s more persistent and more likely to actually hit.

How did you manage to make the SA-2's so sneaky (flashing the Fan Song on and off and avoiding conterattack)?

Thank you.
I'm closing up to 18:00 in the scenario and it's been one heck of a ride.
Had the AIM-9C been workable, it wouldn't be much of a problem though.
This is partially on the devs side also.
Looking forward to the update. :)

I am aware of some of the issues right now, and I'll try to get it updated (especally with CMO coming out!)

The main problems, actually, have mostly got to do with the updates to CMANO itself since I made the scenario - which isn't the devs' fault, but there's certain thing (like aircraft damage, AI and sensor tweaks) which changed the balance, and certain fixes to scripting issues that were there before (and workarounds were used in this scenario which are no longer needed/no longer work).

But yes, a re-done version of this scenario with a lot of updates and new features is coming sometime in the next few weeks! I'm not sure yet if I'll be able to make it for both CMANO and the new CMO, but I'm hoping most people hop over onto the new version anyway :)

Please tone down the MiG patrols.
I've already killed 12 PNVAF fighters and there's still DOZENS ( ;) ) swarming over my every mission.
That's nowhere close to how they operated. They barely had that many airplanes working at a time.
It makes the scenario very hard, I get it but it's a tad much now.
With the AIM-9C bugged to hell (will not acquire target nor fire in any way) and the AIM-9B barely ever being fired (engagements fought too low) it makes this wonderfull and fascinating scenario all that more hard.
I'm really amazed at the work you must have put into this. It's the best scenario I've ever fount in CMANO up to this day.
I love it but the MiGs are way too much I think.
