I suppose you made it with the in-game editor and polished it with Hammer? (e.g. for the thin blocks)
If so, maybe you could make the code more obvious by switching the light strips on/off when pressing the buttons . I don't know what's possible with Hammer though.
BTW, I don't know whether it is intended, but there is a portal gun in the door opening of the first room .
I find it a bit annoying that there is no indication on how the buttons work in the big room. However I really liked how the puzzle ends with the laser .
