Description
Florianopolis, Brazil

Welcome to the beautiful city of Florianopolis, Brazil!

Florianópolis is the capital city and second largest city of the state of Santa Catarina, in the South region of Brazil. It is composed of one main island, a continental part and the surrounding small islands. In 2014 it had a population of 461,524. The metropolitan area has an estimated population of 1,111,702, the 21st largest in the country. The city is known for having a very high quality of life, ranked as the country's third highest Human Development Index score among all Brazilian cities.

That's what Wikipedia says. :)

I created the map from the original height map with a few adjustments to make it more "playable". The road/highway system is based on reality (although the interchange in the southern part of the map is a bit more "efficient" than the real one to deal better with the ingame traffic engine).

Unfortunately it is not possible to build any tunnels in the map editor so you have to build the highway tunnel on your own. You will quickly figure out where. :)

Every city at the seaside needs a harbour. Although Florianopolis doesn't seem to have a large harbour I terraformed some piers as a start for your cargo harbour area. Same applies for a train station. The city doesn't have one - correct me if I'm wrong. I searched the whole map for it but couldn't find one. So I layed out the tracks as my city planning skills told me to do. :)

I kept the original scale of the real map, so I recommend to use a mod to unlock all 81 tiles for a better playing experience.

Recommended mods for this map:
• Map Theme: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=631201703&searchtext=realistic - Credits to Captain Soap for this awesome work!
• 81 Tiles Mod: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=576327847&searchtext=81

Have fun and let me know if you like my newest map. Feedback is always appreciated.

@Jensoo just downloaded this back and found it again. About the 2018 reply, True. It would make a traffic mess, which is realistic hahahah

@Hars: Yeah, the highways on the island are a bit overscaled. There are only "normal" roads actually. Deleting these and only keeping the highway entrance in the West however probably will cause enormous traffic issues because everything will concentrate on a single road.

What I first did to solve the traffic issue was to remove both outside connections in the island, after all, Florianopolis has only one way in and out and that is the one connecting it to the main land; And, if there's nothing built there, there should'nt be that much traffic.
The map looks great though, I've been to this cities about a dozen times and it is really accurate.

I was wondering if anyone manage to remake all the streets just like real; That way we could deal with a more accurate traffic issue. It would be awesome.

:D I was just gonna say, you could do the trick that I had to end up doing when playing on New Caledonia - running a second bypass highway underneath because all the connections feed into that one highway that comes into the start square. What a traffic headache! That's the map where I discovered this. So, yes, if it becomes a bother you can do that, or else you can see the management of the traffic congestion as a natural challenge for your map, which makes game play much more interesting!

@MrMiyagi: Thank you! This means much to me as I am a big fan of your work! :) Thank you for your explanations. I understood everything you said. :) I already created some maps before this one - maybe it was just a coincidence I never built this kind of constellation before. Or the traffic distributed better after I started building my cities.

However I started building Florianopolis in the meantime. It has 40k inhabitants now and traffic flow is still OK. I think it is quite acceptable to have some red coloured highways as that doesn't always mean traffic jam but heavy usage of the route. It also contributes to the "factor of realism". :) Maybe I'll try adding a tunnel under the strait to have a second connection. I will see in the progress of city building.

Thank you again for your reply. :)

It should be just as much fun and rewarding a map to have just two connections, and even then it will still be a challenging map traffic wise. Hope that helps!
