Red Dragon Descends 2022

Description
United States and Allies vs. People's Republic of China
-by Roy B.

Date/Time: 11 June, 2022 / 10:00:00 Zulu / 19:00:00 Juliet (Local)
Location: Western Pacific
Playable Sides: United States or Peoples Liberation Army Navy.

Introduction:
The People's Republic of China continues to ignore and refute the UNCLOS judgement and continues to construct artificial islands in the South China Sea. PLAN and PLAAF are massing forces, deploying to forward positions and assuming a very hostile posture. PRC has established an ADIZ over the entire region and threatens to shoot down any unauthorized aircraft. China's militarization of the region poses a threat to international trade routes which pass through the area. The world community is mostly against Chinese expansion and is assembling a multi-national task force in the region. The nearest available US forces consisting of two aircraft carrier strike groups and an amphibious ready group are converging towards the South China Sea. Follow on reinforcements will arrive in piece-meal fashion. Reports of naval gunfire has ignited a conventional conflict which can easily escalate. Will hostilities remain contained within the region or deteriorate and expand into a global war?

Scenario Design Notes:
This is an expansion of the existing "South China Clash, 2013" scenario, but tailored for 2022 OOB. I initially designed this for my personal consumption but I decided to share it so that others may also enjoy. This is a massive and highly complex scenario designed to be played from the US or PLAN side. Scenario duration is 7 days. There are over a dozen factions, all with its personal characteristics, complicated relationships with neighboring countries and individual objectives. Represented factions include: US, PRC (PLAN and CCG), Japan, Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, joint Anglo-French, India and Russia. Depending on your actions and circumstances as situations develop, certain factions may join your effort or become hostile. The scenario also includes ground forces, some of which are deployable by airborne, amphibious or traditional means. Forces include theater level ballistic (conventional) systems. The scenario is intended to represent a current real-world threat to the once invincible carrier strike groups and capital ships. Please insure that you peruse through the abbreviated operations orders in the beginning of the scenario to be aware of your faction's commander's intent and objectives (especially designated LZ's for amphibious and airborne elements). I have intentionally left the naval flotillas ungrouped for your own tailoring if you wish. I also left the Map Settings so that you may adjust setting to your personal taste. This is in Beta form and I welcome any constructive criticism. The scenario requires perpetual polishing. Please disregard initial victory point and losses. Because of the complexity of rivaling objectives and the state of geo-politics, in the end, the player determines who really won or lost. Enjoy.

You updated US for 2022 but PLA is really more representative of 2015 or 2010 in some cases.

The PLA in RDD2022 seems to be very underpowered relative to the PLA in 2017. Mostly operating newer ships and aircraft in smaller numbers of what really operates in their forces means the large improvements the USN gets in 2022 (More 5th gens, LRASM-B, MQ-4C) compared to 2017 results in the PLA being wiped out where in 2017 the PLA can win.

Adding some modern AEW/Recce, more Type 052D etc instead of older Type 051 and Type 052 which have been phased out by now IRL, and updating some ships and aircraft to their midlife upgrade version would be a more realistic scenario imo.

Interesting. I copied over the scenario from CMANO and it didn't load due to some kind of database error.

There seems to be a big problem with the setup of side postures. Some of the sides are continuously generating and instantly dropping new contacts, which is really taxing the system. This indicates a possible "circular alliance" issue. Please re-check the side postures carefully.
