Description
This is my entry for UESC competition 30

1st place

Short Description:

A VTOL spacecraft made out of the raw materials of the red ship. Has a great thrust to weight ratio and it was designed to beat the red ship in every single concievable way. (The red ship has better military capabilities and a larger hangar but thats it) It was designed as a replacement for the red ship as the red ship was never great to begin with.

Stats

Name
Vor Class Explorer
Type
Large grid all in one survival ship
Accelaration (Due to how the script work the first 2 seconds follow a lower accelaration)
~8m/s^2
Deaccelaration (Same principle follows Deaccelaration)
~10m/s^2
time to complete turning period
Havent fully checked but very very fast
Feul Consumption
Need to test. Wasnt sure how the competition monitors Hydrogen consumption as it isnt reliant on power output
Scale
21 × 9 × 50 blocks
Size
52.5 m × 22.5 m × 125 m
Mass
1,278,262.75 Kg
Blocks
1,810
Permanent Crew Capacity(amount of cryopods)
4
Propulsion Type
Hydrogen
Engine Workings
Single Rotating VTOL block Propellant included on block: Side movement on Main grid

Features:
  • VTOL WASD Engines for planet landing(script: Whip's Rotor Thrusters Manager)
  • Fully Pressursed
  • Lowerable Ramp
  • Elevator to ground level
  • Auto Rotating Solar Panels (script: smart solar panels)
  • Flightseat Information screens
  • Extendable Front connector
  • Refinery
  • Assemblers
  • Automated inventory sorting(script: Taleden's Inventory Manager
  • Very fast and agile.
  • Troubleshooting Panel.
  • Hangar with two openings, one for ground vehicles and the other one for ships.
  • semi-Intuitive airlock system.
  • Large Hydrogen bearing capacity.
  • Electricity efficient (can run on solar panels and batteries if you wanted too)
  • Ore detector
  • Lights triggered by Sensors
  • High load carrying capacity in Planet landing mode.
  • Sensor triggered, elevator, ramp and hangar door options.

Issues with ship

PLEASE READ: THE ROTOR SAFETY LOCK FOR ALL ROTORS ARE TURNED OFF BY DEFAULT. (Update)
This is to stop them from disconnecting when pasting the ship in, in the stable branch. When pasted just turn the safety lock back on again. Its a button on the troubleshooting panel. When pasting the ship in now regardless of status of rotors they just disconnect. You can reconnect all rotors by selecting group rotors and press attach twice then proceed to sfately lock the group Rotors W/ out Solar panel rotor

Weird fix no longer works anymore Just go to the trouble shooting panel and turn off the pistons unless you want the ship to rip apart in spectacular fasion. Ive tried to solve it but nothing seems to work

Update 16(emergency update)

I was allowed to update this blueprint during judging because of the rotor and piston bugs that plague this thing. I have slightly changed where the VTOL is connected and added an extra block between the two pistons. Further more Ive readded a button that connects all rotors when pasting the ship in. I must warn you tho the vtol still doesnt work properly despite this attempted fix.

You can also access the world file linked below to not have to deal with the rotor issues whats so ever: World File

congrats on 1st!

The biggest critism this ship got that I have control over (klang seems to really like to ruin this ship and the oxygen algorithm breaking: dammit keen) was that the the controls were too complex. I did create a guide but it might not be enough.

Ill post a video of it in the near future.

Just be careful with the pistons. the rotors are ok you just have to safety lock them when you start flying the ship(except for the solar panels but they are balanced and dont affect movement). Pistons in the dev version crash the game and in stable when using the vtol just follow the steps on the workshop page and u should be ok. :)

Tnx, well sadly it is covered in klang issues but there are ways around it despite being very bizarre. If ur in thr stable branch it should not be much of an issue.

I am looking forward to getting back from holiday to test this one out. I love the "not quite" symmetrical look you've got going here. I hope the klang issues don't plague your submission test, because it looks like you've covered a lot of neat features.

Yea my original design did have them at first but bx the red ship has woefully little silicon for its size i had to cut on the silicon use in a couple of areas. The original also had more windows and used sliding doors both used bullet proof glass which use a ridiculous amount of silicon.

Why no oxygen farms? It would make sense.
