V-Mods: More Heroes

Description
V-Mods: More Heroes

About:
----------------------------------------

This was made mainly for personal use, but anyone may use it... See the WARNINGS at the bottom too.

Adds a collection of hand-crafted heroes to the pool of recruitable heroes. Many of the heroes are inherently something (Monster, machine, good, evil etc.)
They are mostly well balanced (More so since 1.2), following quite closely the way the vanilla heroes are made. But... there are a few exceptionally powerful ones among them, which I think is fine. Some of them have specific weaknesses as well.

As of update 1.1, all machine heroes are also "Automata" and have one of 4 different abilities that they can use. I've tried to balance them as well as I could. See changenotes for specifics.

Most of the heroes revolve around a theme and some are even part of a bigger collection of heroes (7 of the Elves and 7 of the Humans for example are two different sets).

The custom heroes are just as likely to be up for hire as the vanilla heroes are. So they are either common or rare depending on your luck.

The pictures above include all of the currently added heroes and a complete list with the names and abilities of every single one of them.

Hero Examples:
----------------------------------------

Normal custom heroes:

Halfling Necromancer that is Archlich and Undead. Gets Path of Decay ability and Nekron's Kris of Decay item. Likes Blighted terrain.

Goblin Dreadnought that is Inherently Stinking. Gets a Bucket of Filth item.

Frostling Theocrat that is Inherently Neutral. Gets Vigilant and Meditation abilities.

Human Warlord. Gets Thunderstorm ability.

Orc Arch-Druid that is a Were Bear. Surprisingly enough... can transform into a Dire Bear.

Draconian Necromancer that is a Monster. Gets Animal-, Monster- and Penguin Slayer abilities and Coat of the Elephant Hunter item.

(I consider the requisite "Monster" a weakness, because it doesn't give any real bonuses to the hero and the sheer amount of heroes and units with "Monster Slayer" in AoW3 is usually quite amazing.)

Some of the stronger ones:

Orc Dreadnought that is Undead. Gets Dominate, Control Undead and Life Steal abilities. Doesn't have a natural Heal Undead however.

Elven Rogue. Gets Inflict Spirit Breaking and Arctic Running abilities. Base Morale of the hero is -50.

Dwarven Necromancer that is Inherently Evil, Incorporeal and of Magical Origin. Gets Void Implosion, Collect Bones and Path of Decay abilities. Also likes blighted.

The Magical origin should work as a weak point (Banish), but this hasn't been tested in EVERY situation. Arcane Binding spell works and the AI will try to take over your Magical Origin heroes with it.

(A full list of added heroes and their abilities can be found in the pictures, you may spoil them for yourself if you wish. I will try to keep the list in question close to the end, to avoid unwanted spoilers.)

Amounts of Heroes:
----------------------------------------

By race:

Draconian: 13
Dwarven: 13
Frostling: 10
Goblin: 15
Halfling: 12
High Elf: 18
Human: 15
Orc: 11
Tigran: 11

Total: 118

All races have at least one new hero of each class.
The ratio between total female and male heroes is currently 56F/62M

Note (If someone is interested): The vanilla game has 53 heroes and the DLCs together bring that number up to 131. With this mod it currently makes a total of 249 heroes.

By class:

Arch-Druids: 16
Dreadnoughts: 21
Necromancers: 14
Rogues: 15
Sorcerers: 14
Theocrats: 14
Warlords: 24

Compatibility:
----------------------------------------

Works with basically everything. Only new heroes have been made using the abilities already in the game and as of update 1.1 new abilities have been applied in special cases (Specifically machine heroes in 1.1). Using a mod that changes the abilities or items of the game will affect most heroes in this mod as well.

WARNINGS:
----------------------------------------

1. All the abilities haven't been tested in every situations. eg. If a Hero is of Magical Origin, does the banish spell work correctly in EVERY situation (Yes you can banish heroes with Magical Origin)? Or do the Archliches work properly with Necromancer players upgrading their heroes to archliches? etc.
- Having an Archlich in the same stack with your NON-UNDEAD LEADER, will turn your Leader into a ghoul as well as all other units. Which is funny, but be warned. Applies to other heroes as well. If you don't want to Ghoul your army, don't have the Archlich in the stack with them.
2. I haven't had the time to test all heroes thoroughly. (90% I have tested ingame, the rest I'm just trusting to work atm) Also it's a pain in the butt to check each and every hero multiple times, since they don't update when I make changes to the mod. I always need to get them again.
3. This mod may contain Easter-eggs.

Final Notes:

1. The Pictures don't include the 22 heroes added in 1.3. For specifics on them see the Patch Notes. I don't have the time or interest to add the pictures right now.

Yes, most likely. This only adds content. Doesn't change or delete anything.

can I use this mod in midgame?

@Demiurge Why wouldn't it work?
Demiurge 27 Jan, 2023 @ 10:34pm
does this still work?

Is there any way to make this compatible/balanced with Empire Building? That mod's essential these days and I really would like as many heroes in my pool as possible.
Varegi  [author] 30 Oct, 2020 @ 3:49am
shouldn't be as this doesn't really make any changes to existing content as far as I remember. I recall planning another, separate version, where I would change existing content as well... I don't use that mod so I have no experience to say what would collide...

Just a question, is there any compåatibility problems with this and "Empire Building" Mods? Seems that I have a problem getting them working together.

you're looking somewhere weird where they aren't. and yes they show up as recruits, not leaders
LevelSix_SYSTEM 23 Jul, 2019 @ 12:17pm
Not seeing any added Heroes to either the Custom or Vanilla Hero lists... are they 'hidden' as far as not being able to choose them as Leader but they show up in game?

google "age of wonders 3 modding guide"
the first result is the official guide. It might take some time to load up.
or use/copypaste this link: aow.triumph.net/data/Modding/Modding_Guide_v1.pdf
pages 81-89 detail the hero and leader creation process. You can "disable" existing heroes by deleting if no other method exists. Don't worry, they will only be deleted when using the mod. There might be a setting to disable them from their own settings I don't remember, check it out.
