Is there any way to make this compatible/balanced with Empire Building? That mod's essential these days and I really would like as many heroes in my pool as possible.

shouldn't be as this doesn't really make any changes to existing content as far as I remember. I recall planning another, separate version, where I would change existing content as well... I don't use that mod so I have no experience to say what would collide...

Not seeing any added Heroes to either the Custom or Vanilla Hero lists... are they 'hidden' as far as not being able to choose them as Leader but they show up in game?

pages 81-89 detail the hero and leader creation process. You can "disable" existing heroes by deleting if no other method exists. Don't worry, they will only be deleted when using the mod. There might be a setting to disable them from their own settings I don't remember, check it out.

Hey, what did you use to create these heroes ? I don't know where to look for a guide. I wish to create a couple of my own random heroes. Also, is there a way to disable the default random heroes to spawn but not custom ones ?

Thanks for the comments. Im not going to buy planetfall (come on, age of wonders in space!!!!), so Im happy as long as there are some good modders out there that develop the game (at least until a real IV comes).

I'm 99% sure it works with Empire building mod after going through its contents. I don't think I ever made changes to existing content, to ensure compatibility, and only made new abilities when needed (Automata-type heroes). However, though even if it works with it it sure isn't balanced for it, so you may encounter OP Heroes etc. Also duplicate abilities are sure to be more common than normally.

Though my last comment here said there would be an update last year, it's not abandoned... I just had an unexpectedly busy end of 2018 and right now I'm planning on doing a bigger combination of all of my mods at some point. This is one of the few mods I will still have updates for though. I just haven't had an inspiring weekend to make mods lately.

The next update (whenever next year it will be) will most likely be a bigger batch of "filler" heroes with more generic and uninteresting traits. But I'll try to avoid generating utter crap, but we'll see.
The point is to have the more interesting heroes be rare. It's also an easy way for me to fix the amounts of heroes per race/gender etc. problem if one is perceived by anyone.
Of course I intend to have most things evened out among the races (ex. the machines) but some races are just too uninspiring for me... and some you might say I have too much inspiration for (like female elves...:HappyMask:)

:HappyMask: I know what you mean, the same could be said to be true for male dwarves (which is objectively "worse"). Though I've added some of the opposite to balance things out since the time when that was completely true (Initial version had like 1M/9F elves or something)

FYI: The current ratio for M/F elves is 6M/12F and the ratio for M/F dwarves is 10M/3F.
Since I'm doing the ratios, here's for the other races too:
Draconian: 6M/7F
Frostling: 5M/5F
Goblin: 6M/9F
Halfling: 7M/5F
Human: 9M/6F
Orc: 8M/3F
Tigran: 5M/6F

yeahh... hmm.. I'll see next year if I'll add a lot more to the other races :HappyMask:

1.3 Update is out. 22 new heroes. A total of 118. See Patch Notes for what's been added and changed.

Next updates will be late 2018 or beyond because I won't have access to my PC for a year.:WheelOfAges:

Balancing update coming next week. Some heavy handed balancing after some reflection. All heroes will retain their specialness, but will cut most skillpoints based upgrades that give a headstart.

:illuminati:Update 1.1 is now complete... phew... now I will proceed to the next one. Most likely no changes to existing content will be made unless some halfling hero happens to have a human head or something... So if you like the mod and the new update, look forward to some more heroes during the summer. :HappyMask:

Sidenote: It seems updating the mod midgame doesn't affect the ongoing game? At least in my personal testing it did not break it. But who knows.

Update could prevent you from launching an ongoing game with heroes from this mod that have changes made to them. Chances are this will affect your game or it might not. A small bunch of new heroes, some changes ranging from small to big on some heroes. The update will contain something to make machine heroes a bit more interesting :HappyMask:

I have a backup of the first version if someone wants it, hit me up and we'll figure out how I send it over. (As I imagine there might be people that don't like the new content?)

I was only meaning it as feedback , not as criticism - i like this mod a lot and i know you must have put a lot of work into it. Thanks for giving us more variety of heroes - gets dull having the same ones all the time without mods like this one

I never play as dreadnought - might be more useful as a dreadnought as engineers might be able to repair them - not sure - i only know i tried giving them Repair and they couldn't use it on themselves in combat.

@dmcf Yes they (currently 3) are from this mod and yes to all the points you've made about them. They are indeed meant to be something different from the run of the mill heroes and I've given one of them masterwork to boost its attributes and another quick learner for faster leveling.
There will be a few more later, but they will be a rarity against the total number of heroes you can recruit (0 to 2 for each race).

Have you tested them on a dreadnought player? Do the global upgrades not work with them? Because with monster heroes the Archdruid upgrades worked.

I'll be doing some balancing with heroes that have requisites like that. You can always just not recruit them if you don't know how to make use of them.

Are the dreadnoughts who are machines from this mod? Just wanted to point out that while they ardd variety they make pretty useless heroes as you can't cast most spells on them, nor heal them. You can get their hitpoints back out of combat if you give them repair as a skill , but they can't use it on themselves in combat.

Thanks for a nice mod. It might need to be updated for version 1.8: Citing Hiliadan from Triumph´s forum: "For other mods with issues, you probably need to contact their authors so that they do a small edit in their mod to say to the game that the mod works with v1.8 (it’s a quick edit, very simple)."

Well I'm glad you fixed it, and I hope all stays well. I guess your load order just broke. Disabling and re-enabling mods does fix a lot of problems with many games...

I've recently been fixing my problems with XCOM 2 by doing that. I don't know why I didn't think about that earlier. Oh well... Have fun! :HappyMask:

On your advice, i did some test, and got some results.

Unbeliveable, i don't know how to describe it.

I think it's really ridiculous!

1.I just disabled all mods, but v-mod, start new game stay and run 30 turn.Everything is ok.

2.Add another mod, start new game and run 30 turn......

3.After all mods being added to game, no crash.

I don't know why, but It seems all ok......Maybe need more test.....

These guesses could be wrong and it could be something entirely different, but I suspect it has to do with a patch or something on your end for now. (Guesses 1 and 2)

I'll try to replicate that crash as soon as I have the time (Hoping before Christmas...).

I haven't launched the game in a while after reinstalling my OS on an SSD, and the last time I tried everything worked perfectly. I've played 3 games past turn 100 with the latest versions of all of my mods, impeding mountains and extended settings turned on.

Since this mod doesn't introduce anything that could break the game.

I could only guess that either
1) A patch to the game has broken all hero mods, which means we need to update them by opening editor - saving and reuploading (or in worst case remake them?)
2) Your game installation is somehow broken - verify game cache or reinstall
3) Perhaps you have too many mods and the added heroes just break it for you? Not sure if possible.
4) You use a mod that somehow happens to conflict with any mod that adds heroes, which is something I think is impossible :illuminati:... but anything could be true. To clear this one up, I'd need your full modlist to see what you've done to your game.

My new game always crashed at 5~10 turn end when the hint showing ai auto moving...Don't know why, after disable this mod, everything is ok.

I have tried many other mods for adding hero, but all of them crashed as i said before...

Any ideas?

Oh but modwise making new leaders... It's quite similar to making new heroes but you don't need to think about the added abilities etc. because leaders don't have them.

You make a custom leader ingame with the leader editor that is a part of the game. That leader you can already use in your singleplayer/multiplayer games so making new leaders is as easy as that.
Making new heroes is however another thing. You use the ingame editor to make the looks and then do a bunch of stuff to make it into a usable hero by using the mod editor.

The guide you mentioned: Pages 81 onward (15.4 Case Study 3: Adding a new Hero and Leader) explain it quite well...

It's more of a chore rather than hard. Also just making a hero is of course easy once you're familiar with the editor, but making interesting heroes takes time.

If you're interesting in making your own heroes, I'm more than happy to run you through the process via steam chat or something.
