If it was done your way then there would be no risk . If the leeching effect only took away from something you didn’t need then there would be no balance of power.
The Mage loses health but gains extra Magicka. They are more likely to die unless they can juggle the spells properly and fast enough. The Ranger loses their Stamina for increased Health so they can take more up-close damage at a cost of bow blocks and Steady Hand and the Warrior loses Health for more Stamina so they can powerswing/block more often rather than standing there tanking in heavy gear.
Not to mention the class bonuses.
