Description
This is the next Metro NYC map, and a huge project this time! This one has a lot in it - best part is a good long chunk of Manhattan. This is nice because you can enjoy the best, most expansive views of the NYC skyline... from the Jersey side! You'll be able to build a nice Manhattan skyline and also have the entire Financial District and WTC area, as well as the Statue of LIberty's island, the Brooklyn Bridge.

On the back sie of Jersey City are the Meadowlands with all its crazy infrastructure and lots of resources to build up an industrial powerhouse that you can hide out of sight from Manhattan :D

This map is just like the real place: it has a ton of absolutely insane infrastructure in a giant bizarre mess (all as close to real life as I could manage). The interesting thing is that it does seem to work well. As bizarre as it looks, I did follow the traffic patterns, and although (like real life) you have to sometimes to weird manouvers to get where you need to, it does function right traffic wise.

TONS of road and rail connections

No mods

Lincoln and Holland Tunnels laid down, there is a highway tunnel connection underneath a part of Manhattan - this is for traffic reasons and can be edited once you build on Manhattan.. if you want to be that exact :).

It's for Overlayer v2 mod for you to use as the overlay image

I used BloodyPenguin's mod Unlimited Outside Connections to make the large number of rail and highway connections. You don't need to use this mod for the connections to function properly.

just a quick bump on the possibility of a ringwood map... the reservoirs would be awesome to play with and the topography as the valley opens at pompton/oakland would call for some complex solutions to fix the traffic from the north (as is an issue irl that just gets ignored (locals consult wikipedia for the wanaque-ringwood bypass story))

Take that huge image you got on Bigmap and paste it onto that template you got from imgur. Resize the Bigmap and move it around until you've got as close a match to the position and size of the template image as possible. I will be making images of this part of the process asap, which will make what I'm describing easier to understand. Hopefully you get it, though. :)

Use the image that you download from imgur as a "template", just like in the guide. It's a square screenshot just like is shown in the guide.

Then, paste this link on the Bigmap page. https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=14/40.7356/-74.0583
Start expanding the map shown on Bigmap as explained in the guide, a maximum of 10 x 10 Bigmap tiles. Follow the guide instructions on setting the Bigmap queue and then copy / save the map image once it's done processing.

Hi @MinisterODE this was my first map with an overlay. 1) The overlay is awful, low res and garbage compared to my later work 2) it's not 1:1 real life scale, it's actually a tiny bit larger of an area than real life, which was figured out by the community only after I made this map.

While I don't have instructions to get a Google map overlay (although I've heard it's possible), you can get openstreetmap content to be really high res and detailed by going to a site called Bigmap.
