Distressed!

I was planning on making this series but never thought I would release one this soon. After posting my CZ-75 Corroden yesterday I got a lot of feedback saying the combination of rust and wood was too dark and therefore not appealing at all. I then immediately jumped in photoshop to create an alternative version and that is how the distressed skin was born. In short the distressed skin is a combination of bright brushed metal with a much more bright colour of wood. The metal has worn and you can see little bits of rust coming to the surface on edges and corners. This skin is made for the mil-spec/restricted rarity.

Work Progress

As I mentioned earlier this skin was created yesterday after the feedback that was given by the community that they are not a big fan of the colour brown and that the overall look of my CZ-75 Corroden was too dark. So I first jumped into Substance Designer which is an A+ program in terms of PBR material creation and then created a metal material which had a few scratches and some darker spots. Placed this on the desired spots and went to work in terms rust. I went all around the geometry to paint the rust in the correct places. Then all that was left was some alterations to the wood which I at first made a little brighter. Played around with my damage layer and made it a bit more stark and voila, the distressed was born.

Making The Alpha Channel

Alpha channel was a slight alteration to what it was before with the CZ-75 Corroden. I have made some changes in terms of the shading of the wood which I made practically non existent because I don't like myself a shiny wood. I then went to the top metal where I made the rust completely white on the Alpha channel so it does not shine. Then edited the distressed metal a little and went to the barrel of the CZ. The barrel was a bit of a pickle but I got it to wear at the end of minimal wear so at around the float value of 0.13-0.15 you start noticing scratches and the super reflective base texture shines through. Obviously the rusty spots on the barrel will remain till float value 0.9999999. Max wear is 1.00 because I really wanted the weapon to turn into this old metal when worn. Check out the wear gif at the end of the image carousel so you can check the wear for yourself!

Last Words

I am always looking to improve myself in terms of weapon skins and this is the offspring of an alteration I make from the feedback out of the community. I sincerely hope this skin will be more appealing to the mass and will thus result in better feedback. Is there anything you think is a bit iffy? Is there anything you feel should be changed? Don't be afraid to shoot me a message on my profile, the comment section or on twitter/reddit. I am always open to constructive criticism and willing to make alterations :)

I sincerely hope you like this new weapon skin collection!
