Description
Mount Rushmore is an iconic monument located in the Black Hills of the American state of South Dakota. It was constructed using explosives and finer carving from the Granite rock of the hills during the early 20th century - construction began in 1927, and finished in 1941 as a result of lack of funding. The design features four U.S. Presidents - George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln, chosen for their sucesses in expanding or securing American territories during their respective times as president. Ingame, Mount Rushmore causes the Gold cost of purchasing tiles to be reduced by -35%, and Unhappiness from Citizens in Non-occupied cities to be reduced by -15%, while it requires a nearby mountain and Dynamite.

Requires Gods & Kings expansion pack, and icon credit to sukritact

As a Native American I don't find it objectionable. It would be nice to have The Stone Mountain effort as a wonder as well. Racism is in the eye of the beholder. There is only one race on Earth, and the quicker people realize that, the better.

In order to own it, we need to admit we're wrong and learn from it; two things most people in this country are not very good at.

mrktucson, I highly doubt that racism did not exist simply because the word "racist" did not exist. Plenty of offensive things have happened to people in the past and form what is known as history, so do not attempt to downplay the USA's oppression of Native Americans. It's our history, we need to own it - just like the Germans own the Holocaust or the Japanese own the Rape of Nanking. Attempting to disown what has been done does a great disservice to both history and to the nation you're attempting to defend.

Granted, the artist may not have thought he was racist, but I highly doubt that many slaveowners in the US South thought they were being racist when they owned African Americans - they figured they were providing them food, shelter, and protection in exchange for work, a fair trade. Their ignorance does not make what they did more acceptable, though it does help us understand why they did it.

I find this piece beautiful and interesting. It might seem to offed some people whose native religon was in the area.

However, there is no horses in america before the 1600's when the Spainards Latinos brought them over. Zero horses in America. And America is the name of the Italian that descoved "New Spain".

To worship the European Horse migh state that this religon was invented in the 1960s, by a soviate russian propagandist who did not know better. The Great Spirit Horse could just be a USSR invention in the Cold War... to start civial unrest. Because you know what... before Robert Redford... you do not here much about "The Great Spirit Horse", or Mount Rushmore being racist... because the world racist in 1920s was not invented. Racist is a world invented 50 years later.

But speaking of Horses, the guy that built this in the 1920s, also built Crazy Horse national monument.

So if you think he was racist or attacking Natives... I would highly disbelieve this.
