@beggly2001 Such nice sincere wisdom on your part. The Indigenous nations have so much to teach the rest of us! Thanks.

As a Native American I don't find it objectionable. It would be nice to have The Stone Mountain effort as a wonder as well. Racism is in the eye of the beholder. There is only one race on Earth, and the quicker people realize that, the better.

In order to own it, we need to admit we're wrong and learn from it; two things most people in this country are not very good at.

mrktucson, I highly doubt that racism did not exist simply because the word "racist" did not exist. Plenty of offensive things have happened to people in the past and form what is known as history, so do not attempt to downplay the USA's oppression of Native Americans. It's our history, we need to own it - just like the Germans own the Holocaust or the Japanese own the Rape of Nanking. Attempting to disown what has been done does a great disservice to both history and to the nation you're attempting to defend.

Granted, the artist may not have thought he was racist, but I highly doubt that many slaveowners in the US South thought they were being racist when they owned African Americans - they figured they were providing them food, shelter, and protection in exchange for work, a fair trade. Their ignorance does not make what they did more acceptable, though it does help us understand why they did it.

I find this piece beautiful and interesting. It might seem to offed some people whose native religon was in the area.

However, there is no horses in america before the 1600's when the Spainards Latinos brought them over. Zero horses in America. And America is the name of the Italian that descoved "New Spain".

To worship the European Horse migh state that this religon was invented in the 1960s, by a soviate russian propagandist who did not know better. The Great Spirit Horse could just be a USSR invention in the Cold War... to start civial unrest. Because you know what... before Robert Redford... you do not here much about "The Great Spirit Horse", or Mount Rushmore being racist... because the world racist in 1920s was not invented. Racist is a world invented 50 years later.

But speaking of Horses, the guy that built this in the 1920s, also built Crazy Horse national monument.

So if you think he was racist or attacking Natives... I would highly disbelieve this.

Pouakai  [author] 13 Jul, 2013 @ 5:54pm
There shouldn't be any issues with this and BNW
Arkadus 13 Jul, 2013 @ 4:52pm
has anyone encountered a problem wit this mod in BNW?
Tasi 9 Apr, 2013 @ 6:50pm
I dont know why but I cant get this mod to show up. I use the majority of your mods and I love them all, but for some reason with just wont show up. Yes I have G&K.

I'm part-Mikmaq & well aware of the real Mount Rushmore's contentious past, though neither Six Grandfathers mountain nor the Black Hills region of the western US (sacred to the Lakota & Dakota nations) was known to my ancestors in eastern Canada.

I won't use this mod myself, as to me (& many other modern 'Indians') 'Rushmore' is an eyesore symbolizing the disrespect and destruction visited on indigenous Americans. BUT, nobody uses this mod because its real-world counterpart offends anyone, nor did Pouakai intend any offense. Mount Rushmore's been in most versions of Civ, after all.

It'd be nice if the 'pedia text for this Rushmore wonder had a bit about the site's history (& I'm glad to help draft that, if Pouakai is interested). Even better, in-game effects could increase unhappiness from occupied cities -- but that's just my biased opinion.

While I definitely get where Rat. is coming from, there's no need to be obnoxious -- whether defending or criticizing this mod.

Hey RAT stfu and dont download it, history is filled with many atrocities and offensive crap depending how you are looking at it.
Rat. 8 Dec, 2012 @ 9:58am
Injustice is injustice it isn't a matter of numbers. Yes there are not many followers of the Native American religions that can be expected after a successful genocide has occurred. However, several groups have revered this as a holy site (tribes which still exist today). I was mainly posting the comment because you did list some of the history of the site, and the bit I said is an important piece of the history that many people do not know and I feel should know.
Pouakai  [author] 5 Dec, 2012 @ 6:12pm
Well, I'm not quite sure how many people that follow the "Native American religion" (Which I'm pretty sure there isn't a single religion shared by each group of Native Americans) also actively play Civilization V, but in the course of over a year of having this mod live at various locations and only four months on Steam Workshop, in which I have had over 3,200 visitors to the page, you are the only person I have ever had complain. There are plenty of worse mods on the Steam Workshop than this, so I would suggest you take your whining elsewhere - 'tis the beauty of mods that you don't need to download it. And it's Israel, not Isreal.
But to comment on your genuine constructive criticism, you'd be surprised that, in gameplay, it's not as powerful as it sounds. A 35% reduction at that point in the game might only be a total of 30 gold for a tile, and the -15% unhappiness will be only about 10 happiness.
Rat. 5 Dec, 2012 @ 3:56pm
This can be seen as a quite offensive inclusion to the game because the actual mount rushmore is carved into one of the holiest sites of the native american religion. An action akin to erecting a 10 story statue of Hitler in Isreal. Political buisness aside the wonder seems a little strong even for a world wonder with a tile requirement.

TalonMadC 19 Aug, 2012 @ 7:44pm
yeah it makes since, fricken china and russia making a statue of people that have nothing to do with there civ,not to mention abe gearge lincoln and rosevelt arnt even in civ
Cosmic Fox 18 Aug, 2012 @ 8:24pm
uh it works with any civ though just fine! ;-)
Joobleblob 14 Aug, 2012 @ 8:59pm
I can't see a statue of 4 of America's presidents being particularly exciting for Civs other than America. That said its bonuses are clearly made FOR America.
