Race Cheat Activator

Description
3.0.* Note: I'm not going to bother updating the version number anymore (It's not because I lost the original files and am too lazy, I swear!), but it still works the same from what I could tell in a quick test.

If you want to use it on the old launcher, you may have to make the mod yourself for it to show up. Instructions at the bottom.
2.6 note: You seem to be able to select and use origins that you don't meet the requirements for (e.g. choosing the machine world origin as not a machine race). No guarantees you'll have a playable game if you do, though.

There's a nifty line in the base defines file that reads ALLOW_EMPIRE_DESIGN_CHEATS = no
This changes that to yes.

From what I can tell, it will allow you to use any number of species traits and ethics during empire creation. It will allow otherwise mutually exlusive traits, but not ethics. E.g. You can have strong and very strong, but not pacifist and militarist.
It does not appear to affect the number of civics you can choose.

This does not change the parameters of race generation, so it still shows the number of picks/points/ethics available (which is also in the defines file in case you want to fiddle with it yourself), it just allows you to ignore them.

From my testing, randomly generated empires will still follow the normal rules. I haven't tested if you can force a user-created AI empire not normally valid to spawn, but I suspect you can, so long as this mod is enabled.
If you create a cheat race and then disable the mod, the empire will not be deleted, but it will be unavailable either to play or to use in galaxy generation.

Be aware that some picks may cause changes in other screens that need to be visited in order for them to update properly. Of note is picking the machine gestalt conciousness government, as you need to revisit the race traits menu for the machine trait to be added. I suspect this is also true for the Lithoid type, but I can't test at this time.

For pre-2.4 :
Since my local copy of the mod is working on the new launcher, a guide for making it yourself.

1: In the new launcher, go to the mod section and click Mod Tools

2: In the new window, fill in the Name and Version boxes, pick a folder name for your mod, and if you want a tag(s)
2b: for reference, for this mod I was putting in [name] Race Cheat Activator [version] 2.4.0 [mod directory] cheatactivator [tag] utilities.
2c: I don't know whether or not the Version box is for mod version of game version, hence why I suggest matching the game version.

3: Click the Create Mod button, then in your file system navigate to the mod folder where it was created.
3a: On my Win7 machine, that's C:\Users\[username]\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Stellaris\mod

4: in the mod folder, there should be afolder with the name you entered into the mod directory section, containing a descriptor.mod. Within that folder, make a folder called common.
4a: I believe the folder name is case sensitive and must be all lowercase, but I'm not 100% sure.

5: Within the newly created common folder, create a folder called defines.
5a: I believe the folder name is case sensitive and must be all lowercase, but I'm not 100% sure.

6: Within the newly created defines folder, create new text file, called [prefix]_defines.txt
6a: [prefix] should be a string of letters and/or numbers. For reference, I use ca while the base game uses 00
6b: Again, I believe that the _defines part is case sensitive. I don't know about the prefix-I'd stick with lowercase to be safe

7: Open the [prefix}_defines.txt file with any text editor (I use Notepad++). Into the file, paste the following:

NCamera = { }
NGameplay = {
ALLOW_EMPIRE_DESIGN_CHEATS = yes
}

8: Save the file, and close the launcher if it's still open. The mod should now be working as intended.

Side notes: The launcher may yell at you, but that doesn't mean it won't work.
Technically you could go into the base game files and find that one line and change it, but that's bad practice and generally not a great idea, especially if you play multiplayer at all.

This mod appears to be causing crashing for my game in v3.2. Depending on mods active, it appears to cause a crash between 5-7 years after game-start, or immediately upon trying to start a new game.

I was just configuring my game via defines and it seems in the past I always missed the ALLOW_EMPIRE_DESIGN_CHEATS option. This is the only source I could find online that actually talk about what this does, so thank you. :)

It works great but there seems to be issues with machine races, i couldn't produce the original machines of the race i made. this might be a bug with stellaris but, idk.

This is something I've not tested for directly, and I don't have time to now so I'll try it tomorrow. I do know that because the mod (well, the define) only affects creation, once you're in game it just sees (for example) "Oh, this species has -25 points and 15 used picks, nothing else can be added to it"

I seem to be unable to modify races if I make changes to them with this mod.

This mod does change the checksum, so it *shouldn't* be possible to use this mod to effectively cheat in MP without others knowing. That said, I don't know if there are other ways to do what you reported.

can something like your mod be used in a vanilla multiplayer game. had a game with a dude the other day who was a Robot with Technocracy?.

Whenever I play a Machine Empire with this mod I'm unable to recruit any armies.

Unless I'm missing something, this doesn't seem to work anymore. Cant save a new empire as it says I have too many traits selected.
