Description

Designed and manufactured by Advanced Aerospace Systems, the Specter Mark 1 belongs to the first generation of Space Superiority Fighters possessing high manneuverability and speed, along with superior and precise firepower, excelling in fast assault runs, close combats and dogfighting.
It's distinguished Ion Drive emits a peculiar bright glow, wich granted it's name 'Specter', and is powerful enough to reach acceleration speeds that can match that of some interceptors, along strong side and reverse thrusters, allowing quick strafing and dodging for a Ion-based ship with a complete hardware, all fitted under a compact, relativelly light-weight high mobility fuselage. It's small enough to fit almost any fighter hangar.

The main armament includes a nose mounted penta-gatling gun system; a precise setup that concentrates the firepower making it excellent for tearing down armor on a single point and shooting down small targets without missing, wich is what usually happens when the guns are wing-mounted and the gunfire is too spread. 4 rockets launchers are mounted for taking down bigger targets.

If you enjoy this model, please rate and leave a feedback comment/report any issues! all my models are subject to improvements and fixes whenever necessary! Thank you.

- Along with the main reactor, there's a considerable amount of small reactors, when fueling the ship it is easier to just place the Uranium inside the main container and let the reactors feed themselves.
- The landing gears are leveled to the fuselage for maximum clearance, be careful when belly landing.
- The Ion Drive glow can be turned off for a more stealth approach with hotkey '6'.
- Ignore 'Weapon is not working' warnings unless they are damaged, that's just how the script that controls the launchers works.

Cap'n, I still have a question.
Ask in the comments, I'll answer whenever I can.

Not doable, unless I just turn this into a 'cheat' mode fighter. An hydrogen tank would be too big to fit, link the thrusters to the oxygen generator directly would work on creative only (wich i consider cheat mode). on survival it would not be functional, it being survival ready is a must for me... and even playing with Ion alone, I do not think this model is any slow, It was compared to 24 other popular survival ready fighters/interceptors and it ran along the fastest ones. I could however play with H2 on a bigger Mark 2 version, but I don't think within this design, anymore performance could be achieved, at least not without some unpleasant visual changes.

Maybe a full hydrogen fighter with backup small ion's?

You would be able to get a lot more speed out of that, and if you run out of hydrogen you would at least have some small ion's to push you somewhere to refuel.

@Cheetah Thanks for both the compliment and the criticism! they are very welcome! Rockets are actually sequenced, exactly to avoid that. Maybe you've got an older version?

Now, 29m/s/s. While i do have an interceptor that can achieve that, I don't think this one could with it's size. Before I made this one i compared it with a few well known others, and it outperformed some in forward speed, others in strafing and reverse. I also had the need to go for the complete systems kit and weaponry, so I tried to reach a balance here, couldn't have both lunch and dinner for free. But I guess there's always room for improvement, specially now that dampeners doesn't have a boost anymore, so I'll take a look into that.

Thanks for the tip with the batt, I'll consider it more often. Also, I'm unaware of rangefinder, I don't really know what it is.

Overall, this ship is good... but slightly not enough good.
The Text panels are placed in a very vulnerable place, they often get shot off. They're not critical, however.

What this ship really lacks, however, is a rangefinder script, which can tell the distance to target even if it goes without an antenna. I may provide one, if you wish.

The speed and maneuvering is also on a bit slow side. Maybe I'm just accustomed to building insanely fast ships, but 16 m/s^2 forward seems pale in comparison to 29 m/s^2. The strafing thrust also feels not enough; my fighter has up/down/backwards acceleration of 10.5 m/s^2.

Speaking of small reactors, they are not mass-efficient. I recommend pairing a large reactor with one or two batteries for power output; this can cut down a ton or two.

What is stunning with this ship, however, is the design. It's just... beautiful. Nicely done!

It probably can, low weight and a lot of Ion power. It just can't fly in atmosphere.

Can it fly on th moon?nice work btw

Hey there my friend, where have you been lately? I remember once you told me you were waiting for a fighter, and here it is, I hope you like. Nice advice too, I'll see if I can fit it :steammocking:

Cap, this is one of the best looking fighters I've seen on Workshop while still carrying sufficient armament and manouverability.
One thing I'd add is Whip's Weapon Sequencer for rocket launchers. Without this script, you're out of rockets after 4 shots which is rather non-ideal.
