2.10 - The Promo Card Patch

Not quite a Booster Pack patch, but I would like to highlight some of the items that have been released since the 2.0 update. 2 new items in this patch and many small-scale refinement tweaks.


BALANCE

Neutral Special
New: Cannot create a new projectile until the existing one has been destroyed.

Up Tilt
Time between hits increased by 1 frame.


ITEMS - NEW

UNGUARDED FAUCET
NSpecial projectile now leaks 1 extra XP shard every 30 frames, and 2 extra XP shards when hitting the ground.
Synergy with Sunny's Collar - shards can spawn from hitting the ground twice.


ACHIEVEMENT ITEMS - NEW

DEFINITIVE ADDITION
UTilt now drifts backwards after first hit. You can drift off platforms to continue the attack in the air.
Changes UTilt 1 angle from 90 to 105.


ITEMS - UPDATES

Game-Breaking Glitch
Will now always use Secret variant while using the GameBoy alt.

Mint Toothpaste
Custom freeze code completely removed, now simply uses HG_EFFECT 5 (base game/Etalus freeze effect).
This has the following effects:
- Removes the new 'missed tech noise' audio bug.
- Increases freeze timer: 80 > 100 frames.
- ...And potentially further quirky changes as a side effect of going from a jury-rigged freeze effect to the engine's built-in freeze effect. Up Tilt 1 > Up Tilt 2 seems to land the freeze effect more consistently at low percent than before, for example.

Ordinary Bamboo
Self-Heal reduced: 5 > 3
Context: Guadua got nerfed lol

Sunny's Collar
XP Crystal may now bounce off walls.


BUG FIXES

Fixed a bug where XP shards were not granting XP.
Fixed a bug where XP shards were only using one sprite.

REFINEMENT

- Added custom hit VFX for Neutral Special, Side Special (standard hit), Down Special, Up Special, and Down Air.
- XP crystal now uses shader. I.e. Champion alt XP crystal is slightly transparent, GB & Sandbert alts have shading removed, Golden alt crystal is golden by default (sorry, Mr. Embers).
- New respawn platform.
- Up Tilt startup animation tweaked.
- Added visual effects for when an item is voided.


ALTS

- 5th palette updated.
- Seasonal alt updated. Halloween alt replaced with Christmas alt. Start with Mint Toothpaste. (Alt not intended for use in competitive environments.)

- Pool Party: Fixed a rare bug where hitting an opponent while landing, on the first active frame of nairbounce, would prevent Suitcase from bouncing at full height.

Context: Never realized this was a base cast-standard value. You should notice double jumps in the opposite direction of your momentum now go further.

2.9 - THE PROTOTYPE PATCH

Wanted a big 3.0 patch but life's gotten kind of crazy for me. Decided to go ahead and upload what I have. Thanks for playing Suitcase! When things get back to normal I hope to keep it coming.


GAMEPLAY

Rework to core roguelike mechanics.
1. You now level up and gain a charge when you fill the XP bar. There is no longer an XP cap, or limit to Down Special charges you can hold at once.
2. After using Down Special once, you can now always see the next item that will show up when using Down Special, displayed on the HUD as a greyed-out icon. The icon will flash if you are able to spend a level up to obtain the item. The item can no longer be "rerolled" by using Down Special again - the next item in line is the next item you get. Unless you REALLY don't want it, then...
3. New Mechanic: VOID. Now when you have the Down Special menu open, you press Attack to obtain the item, Dodge to close the menu, and now you can press Special to VOID the item. This will remove the item from the item pool at the cost of a charge. For each item voided, Neutral Special's projectile will fly slightly faster and slightly reduce time between hits. In practice it isn't a substantial buff, so you are still encouraged to take items.

Side Special
- New: Holding UP or SPECIAL when going off a ledge will now carhop off the ledge.
- New: Double jump is refreshed when hitting: a wall > anything (still once per airtime)

BALANCE

Dash Attack
- Sourspot angle: 330 > 90

Forward Tilt
- Endlag increased: 9 > 10 (whiff: 13 > 15)

Down Air
- Final hit angle: 55 > 60
- Knockback adjusted: 6.0+0.5 > 7.0+0.4
- CREATOR'S CURSE: Final hit Hitpause adjusted: 7+0.7 > 10+1

Up Air
- Startup increased: 8 > 10
- Active frames decreased: 15 > 14
- Knockback scaling decreased: x+0.8 > x+0.75
- Base Knockback decay adjusted: During active frames, starts from 8 and decreases to 6 > 3

Forward Strong
- Lingering handle grab hitbox lifetime reduced: 3 > 2 (total grab active frames: 6 > 5)
- Removed Knockback Scaling from grab hits
- Final hit Hitpause adjusted: 6+1.2 > 10

Up Strong
- Final hit active frames: 3 > 4

Side Special
- May now only be dodge cancelled in the air. Dodge cancel gravity increased.
- Increased rate of forward acceleration while on the ground.
- Increased rate of forward deceleration while in the air.
- Normal hit knockback adjusted: 5+.6 > 6+.5
- Normal hit Hitstun Multiplier: 1x > 0.8x
- Drift Slam endlag increased: 16 > 18 (whiff 24 > 27)
- Added 5f hit lockout to Drift Slam
- Side Special Dodge Cancel Endlag: 15 (22) > 24 (see bug fixes)


UPGRADES

Academic Cap
- Removed as its effect is obsolete with the way XP now functions.


REFINEMENT

- Level indicator text changed color to more closely match Abyss Mode GUI.
- Down Special menu - item name text color now matches rarity
- When Suitcase has at least one item charge, Suitcase outline now glows purple, increasing in intensity with the number of charges (up to a point)


ALTS

- Champion alt has a new taunt that allows it to change its color pattern
- Pandora alt cycled out, Sandbert alt cycled in (not intended for competitive use)
- Blue and Leather alts tweaked
- Black&Green alt replaced with Donyoku alt


BUG FIXES

- Fixed a bug where dash attack didn't have whiff lag.
- Fixed a bug where Side Special dodge cancel was applying whiff lag.


Also, there is a new achievement. Your hint is Car from Rocket League.

The Muscle Memory Breaker Update

What was supposed to be a pretty small patch, mainly focused on shifting moves around and adding a couple items to go with the new moves, became a pretty enormous balance update. These are the longest patch notes to date. TL;DR notes are posted in the Suitcase Discord.



PROPERTIES

- Gravity Speed: .63 > .6
No longer falls faster than base cast. This is important context for the following changes.
- Jump Speed: 12 > 11.5
- Shorthop Speed: 7.4 > 7
- Doublejump Speed: 13 > 11.5
- Walljump Speed (Vertical): 11 > 9
- Walljump Speed (Horizontal): 4 > 5

Forward Strong
Is now the Suitplex (formerly Neutral Special)

ITEMS - NEW

LETTERMAN JACKET
Allows FStrong (Suitplex) to be used in the air.

SUNNY'S COLLAR
Allows NSpecial projectile to bounce off the ground once if it has not hit something.
Parrying the projectile after the bounce will inflict parry stun as usual; parrying it before the bounce will reflect it with no stun.

Boarding Pass
New: Slightly increases vertical boost gained after hitting an opponent or wall with Side Special.
New: Slightly increases Bair on-hit vertical boost.

Bonus Burger
Increased lifetime: 28 > 999
Projectile is now destroyed when hitting the ground or wall.

Pocket Cactus
New: Front hitbox removed.
New: Increases Bair finisher on-hit horizontal boost. Still increases horizontal boost on whiff.

- Fixed a few slightly outdated hurtboxes.

- Fixed a bug where the XP crystal direction could be reversed on hit.
- Bonus Burger: Projectile no longer goes through walls.
- Mint Toothpaste: Fixed a bug where hitting a frozen opponent with Dair wouldn't apply a vertical boost.
- Pool Party: Fixed a bug where the achievement wouldn't unlock if the requirement was performed within a specific window.
