Update: 3 Apr, 2021 @ 2:08pm

Patch 0.6.0

Added 4 new difficuly settings; Hard, Very Hard, Extreme, and Stupid. Don't play Stupid difficulty. It's not fun. It's plenty impressive if you manage to go from Count to Emperor on Extreme difficulty. Considering the bonuses provided by the Radiant system, Hard Difficulty should be enjoyable for most experienced players.
Radiant Innovations are now available in the Rise of Radiance Era, if your Culture Head is the right type of Radiant. They stay permanently unlocked after researching. A special bonus innovation can be unlocked after unlocking the innovations for all ten Radiant Orders, which grants access to the Luminocracy government type, which Rules by Radiance (With a dread penalty) and allows the adoption of the new Luminite Faiths.
Legalist faiths may now file Civil Lawsuits. There are three types of civil lawsuit:
- Title Claim suit,
- Contract Breach suit,
- Suppression Suit.
New innovative system for storing variable data on dead characters means no more species-changing or eyecolor-changing corpses.
Heralds now counter hostile schemes. Unless you're hot shit, they'll have no trouble killing you - so be warned that they're no longer loot pinatas!
Pissing off your spren can now result in you becoming Recreant. This may kill your spren and leave behind a Shardblade, but will reflect poorly on you, your house, and your dynasty, potentially ruining your future shot at Radiance. In a future update, you will be able to file a lawsuit to lift the Recreance penalties.
Someone who only rules Urithiru (and nothing else) may now only fabricate claims on other Dawncities.
More balance and performance improvements than can be listed here.

Update: 17 Mar, 2021 @ 1:12pm

Patch 0.5.4
The focus of this patch is to make the game playable with patch 1.3. Some visual stuff like hairstyles, loading screens, and coats of arms are still somewhat broken, but the game should be playable. If you spot any issues not related to visuals, don't hesitate to report them!

Improved GUI Framework responsiveness.
Added two special event chains for poets bonding spren. (The new version is currently only available to Poet Skybreakers and Poet Elsecallers)
Fixed some bugs related to Radiant Progression speed for Lightweavers and Elsecallers.

Update: 13 Mar, 2021 @ 7:27am

Improved custom GUI Save Compatibility in line with updates to the GUI Modding Framework.

Update: 13 Mar, 2021 @ 4:06am

Patch 0.5.2:
The variable set after fulfilling the vengeance pact is now global, so you shouldn't be getting 1 Nightblood per generation.
Reduced the performance impact of the Artifact system, at the cost of making any artifacts after your 100th be unclickable.

Update: 12 Mar, 2021 @ 3:29pm

Patch 0.5.1
Fixes:
You can no longer duel spren or children.
Primogeniture now works properly.
Fixed heraldic faiths lacking WoK crime doctrines.
FIxed issues with the Diagram artifact.
Willshapers properly get +50% progression speed for 500 days after changing lifestyle focus.
The special Lightweaver ideals now properly show in the Radiant GUI.
You can now only bond the sibling if you are currently in Urithiru or your capital barony is Urithiru.
You no longer double-dip on marriage penalties when trying to marry a darkeyes to a darkeyes.

Balance pass:
Health bonus for Radiant orders without the Surge of Progression now negate health penalties rather than granting base health. This should reduce the extreme life expectancy of radiants by a few years.
Windrunners and Skybreakers now ignore the water crossing penalty.
Windrunners now get a Knight Effectiveness bonus in addition to Knight Limit.
Elsecallers now get capital county development and +2 Learning per ideal.
Dustbringers now get 25 Natural Dread and +25% casualties inflicted at level 5.
Dustbringers now get +10% progression per artifact owned rather than +20 per artifact equipped.
Stonewards no longer lose prowess with age.
Level 5 Bondsmiths get +50 Vassal
Level 5 Bondsmiths now ignore culture and faith penalties instead of getting a flat +50 opinion.
Vyre is no longer able to gain stress.

Features:
Elhokar now has an inherent bias towards the Order of Lightweavers.
Lightweavers can now swear a custom ideal once without giving up a secret, representing expressing your character's own insecurity.
Because your Lightweaver powers can make people believe your insecurities are factual, this grants the new "Awful Person" trait.

GUI Refactor:
I have developed a GUI compatibility framework which should show custom sidebar buttons even to people who are running conflicting mods.
(Conflicting GUI mods are still likely to hide the gemstone and investiture display, however)
Unfortunately the transition is not inherently save-game compatible, but the fallback solution should recreate the GUI within a month.

For modders, the GUI Framework as a standalone mod can be found at

Update: 4 Mar, 2021 @ 8:13am

Patch notes, version 0.5.0: Of Splinters and Spren
Highlights:
New animated Main Menu, with in-game browser links to free Cosmere books and minigames, as well as the Coppermind.net wiki!
A brand new Spren system, Radiant Squires, Nahel Bonds and dynamic ideal progression!
New Artifacts, Artifact filters, and revolutionary new Artifact Map Modes!
Huge revision of dueling, with over 400 possible duel outcome events depending on dueling stances and preparation!
Nergaoul, one of the Unmade, will inflict The Thrill on random geographical regions at regular intervals, unless it can be stopped by a person with a very particular set of skills...
More dynamic Offer Vassalization bonuses should make bordergore cleanup less of a chore!
Bondsmiths that are currently located in a Dawncity may vassalize Urithiru, and moving your realm capital to Urithiru provides a bonus to vassalization against other Radiants.
Commanding your own army may result in being ambushed by rogue armies, or finding chasmfiends to hunt for their gemhearts!
Turmoil in Jah Keved bookmark, showing Highprinces Valam and Carek Kel Verin, Highlord Balat Davar, and High Chief Mitth'raw'nuruodo
Multiplayer should now be feasible after fixing several causes of desynchronization!

Spren and Radiance
You are now offered an actual character as your spren to bond. A bonded spren is required to progressing through the ideals.
Which spren you're offered is still partially random, and the chance depends on your hidden Order Compatibility ratings. These are computed based on things like stress, traits, skills, number of secrets, number of known secrets, number of prisoners, number of alliances, number of friends, etc. Each order has different weights, so if you want your heir in a particular order, make sure to not give them clashing personality traits - the Skybreakers are *vastly* more likely to accept an Honest or Just character than a Deceitful and Arbitrary one!
Your spren may approve or disapprove of your actions, possibly delaying or progressing your bond. You can see a breakdown of your progression rate in your Radiant GUI.
Radiant characters of at least the Second Ideal may offer their Friends a Squirehood. A Squire gains the first radiant trait but no spren. However, when a Squire *is* offered a spren, it is guaranteed to be the type of spren corresponding to their order. (Note that there are only ever 3 Godspren for the Bondsmiths)
Your bonded spren and your Squires will appear in the new Order tab of your character window, as well as be shown on your character portrait.
Edgedancers and Truthwatchers may now heal target characters, and other characters may request healing from them through the right-click menu.
Bondsmiths now gain a scaling bonus to Offer Vassalization and can vassalize Urithiru if their current capital is a Dawncity, in addition to a new generic bonus for vassalizing anyone who is completely surrounded by a single realm.
Anyone residing in Urithiru gets a bonus to vassalizing Radiants.
The Radiant GUI has gotten a general responsiveness pass, such as adding glows and sound effects to indicate whether a button is available or a click was successful.

Artifacts and Dueling
Identified and fixed the desynchronization problem with the Artifact system.
You can now filter artifacts by slot and type.
There is now a much more involved dueling system where you select your stakes at the Interaction stage, and the recipient's prompt will inform of the stakes before the duel is accepted or rejected. The higher the stakes, the lower the likelihood of AI acceptance. You will also be able to prepare for the duel in various ways, and once it gets going, you may choose any of the 7 Dueling Stances with various effects depending on the matchup. Including the eighth "no stance" option, there are 8 stances x 8 stances x 6 wound types = 384 possible dueling outcomes! Actually, there are a few more than that, because Bloodstance also rolls for a wound on victory, and this doesn't count all the different stake results.
There are now two Artifact Map Modes (Thanks to Castox!) - one for *any* artifacts and one specific to Shards. This shows on the map who owns artifacts and which artifacts they own. Note that you have to already be in a Map Mode where the character's Capital Banner would be visible in order to see their artifacts. It does not show unlanded characters.
There are new Artifacts, including Shardbows, Shardhammers, and the Thaylen Royal Shards as well as three Perfect Gemstones that may be used to store investiture in the long-term.
House Davar starts with a Broken Soulcaster. This may be fixed by an Artifabrian; you can either become an Artifabrian and fix it yourself, or you can request that another Artifabrian fix it for you.

The Thrill
Nergaoul is one of the Great Mindless Unmade, constantly bringing people some of that good ol' fighting spirit known as The Thrill, bringing lower army costs but also reduced County Control.
The Thrill will now afflict a random Geographical Region every few years, providing a two-year modifier to every county and every landed character in that region.
You may reject the Thrill to remove the character modifier, or you may embrace the thrill to gain another stack.
A level 5 Bondsmith who owns a Perfect Gem *and* has Embraced the Thrill may capture it, removing it from the game once and for all.

Ambushes and Chasmfiend Hunts:
When you're commanding an army and traversing hostile territory with low County Control, there is a chance you will get surrounded by a Rogue Army. Normally, this army must be paid off or fought. Bondsmiths and Lightweavers may recruit them to whichever war you're currently fighting. Wielders of Nightblood get a... unique option.
When you're commanding an army and traversing the Shattered Plains, there's a chance you encounter a pupating Chasmfiend. You may fight it for gems and prestige, but be warned that overhunting may eventually cause the extinction of the Chasmfiends, and the fewer there are remaining, the lower the odds of finding one.

Blood System:
This system is tied to the species system, with the blood of parents passed down to their children.
A person with one parent that is full singer and one that is full human will be half and half. The versatility this allows, between not just humans and singers but also Dysians and Siah allows for children that are 56% human, 23% singer, and 21% siah. Half the blood from parents is passed down.
One's blood can be seen on the tooltip from hovering over the species icon.

Religion Work:
Makabakam has several different faiths, including the Emuli faith, two Tashikki faiths, and some mountainous faiths. The existing heraldic religion group was split into three different groups, focusing on the worship of Jezrien, Ishar, and Taln. To provide some flavor, the dark Cult of Talat spreads in the lands of Azir.(These were released earlier than intended)
Selay faiths, including a Sea-Selay variant and a Tribal-Selay variant.
Listener faiths and heresies(Released early)
Shin heresies, including Unholy Stone and Bloody Stone heresies
Vorin Heresies
Fixed a bunch of doctrine bugs which affected piety costs for custom faiths.

Flavor:
Those rulers who have replaced their Chancellor with a King's Wit will have a new Council Task available: A variation of Find Secrets which scales with Diplomacy and can only target your own court.
Singer forms now affect one's genetics: Warform makes one taller and more muscular, etc.
White marbling is also a thing, with marbling being passed down by traits.
Most Makabakam kingdoms now name their rulers after their kingdoms.

Fixes:
Just assume we kept track of all the bugs we fixed, because we totally did.
No, you can't see the logs.
... because the error logs don't grow anymore during gameplay, baby!

Update: 2 Feb, 2021 @ 10:26am

Patch 0.4.1:

Vamah now correctly holds his own Warcamp.
Healing now correctly subtracts investiture rather than granting it.
The player is now subject to the same costs and refund rates for Sprenblades and Sprenplates as the AI, i.e. the actual cost now matches the tooltip.
Added a few missing religions and fixed religious localization

Update: 31 Jan, 2021 @ 10:48am

Patch notes, version 0.4.0: Storms over Jah Keved

Highlights:
The highstorm now regularly roils in from the east and crosses the continent!
The Godherja Artifact system has been completely replaced with the Way of Kings Artifact system!
Jah Keved, Bavland, Silnasen and the Horneater Peaks have all gotten revised to a much higher standard!
Literacy now has an impact on gameplay! Books have been added, which can only be understood if your character is literate or if you - the player, not the character - knows the Women's script!
Replaced main theme with The Darkeyed Musician's "Song of Secrets", with permission. Credits go to http://www.thedarkeyedmusician.com/
The Radiant GUI has been completely redone to look both nicer visually and be more organized.

Geopolitics:
New cultural men-at-arms for the Veden and Unkalaki cultures.
Highprince governments now get lower vassal tax when at peace, but more income when at war.
Highprince Bethab now has his wife Mishinah, and the Bethab culture gets a 50% discount to same-culture mercenaries.
Added Ruthar's son, Relis. He's a duelist and Adolin's rival.
King Taravangian now has his intelligence boon randomized roughly every 1-2 years.
Eshonai and Venli are now in their late teens at game start.
Removed Ecumenism from non-Vorin Passionist faiths. This should prevent the Shattered Plains making powerful alliances at game start.
Added marriage penalties for species and eyecolor mismatch.
Added a first iteration of the Azish elective system.
Adjusted all core tenets so that their triggers only reference religions which exist in the mod.
Added a few new tenets such as Luminophilic, which increases gems-to-investiture ratio by 10% but also reduces gem income by 10%.
Holding Cultivation's perpendicularity increases the gems-to-investiture conversion ratio by 10%.

Cartographic rework:
- Jah Keved and Horneater Peaks reworked. New province layout and titles, Terrain added. Sacred Pools terrain type added for some HEP regions.
- Sacred Hot Springs for HEP, Iron mines for Bavland, Marble Quarries and one special marble Quarry added as buildings. Special spoiler lake added in the HEP.
- 2 MaA units added for HEP cultures.
- Unkalaki culture group created, now 3 cultures: inner, southern and far peak. Unkalaki no longer in JK culture group
- Bavlander moved from Vorin group to JK group. Still not sure if it fits there, Bavlanders may not even be Vorin?
- evinor culture not needed for a whole highprincedom any more, but kept to make a subculture somewhere in JK.
- kel_enari and peskenari cultures created.
- Updated unkalaki cultural innovation for the new cultures. Made unkalaki group culture history (for starting innovations).
- Localizations added/updated where necessary.
- Visual terrain updated in the Unclaimed Hills.

Mechanics and AI
The AI will now properly use radiant powers, shards, and soulcasters when appropriate.
Reworked the dueling system on the back-end. It now properly handles the player being challenged by the AI (though this is less interesting than challenging the AI yourself!)
You can now choose to duel for prestige, for a random county, or for a random artifact.
Made it so you generally only have a chance at getting the AI to accept a duel, which can be modified by various traits and hooks, as well as opinions and rivalry.
Rewrote the eyecolor and species system.
Made Radiant knights less likely to die in battle.
People wearing armor artifacts are less likely to die or be wounded in battle. Effect increases with armor tier, up to Shardplate.

Way of Kings Artifact Module: (Included in the base mod, no need to install the module alongside it)
Completely rewrote the Godherja artifact system into a Way of Kings artifact system.
We would like to thank the members of the modding coop for their assistance with our GUI questions, and of course the Godherja team for providing the original assets.
It's now possible to call actions for all artifacts or all artifacts of specific types, even if they don't take variables as arguments.
There are now convenient scripted_triggers and scripted_lists available for modders.
Icon selection, scripted_gui, GUI and custom_localization are all completely dynamic and do not need manual maintenance when adding new artifacts.
Reduced size of the code base by a factor of 20.
Manually adding new artifacts is now super easy and barely an inconvenience. It takes me about a minute from start to finish - check "Artifact README.info" for instructions.
You can now easily tie the artifact system to events in other mods, by using a robust toolbox of artifact_scripted_effects.
For example, you can transfer_all_artifacts = {A = scope:actor B = scope:recipient} to keep your inheritance effects simple.
New Slot, Destructibility and Rarity GUI elements are dynamically updated.
You can now check for several artifact types for a given artifact. You can wear a mount as headwear if you add an item with those types.
Artifacts can now stack.
There is a new custom GUI for gifting multiple artifacts at once.
Massive performance improvements from using scripted_lists to direct AI behavior.

Specific to the artifacts in the main Way of Kings mod (not the module):
Added Armor values to armor artifacts.
Added a few new named Shards.
Rebalanced many artifacts and granted different weapons different MAA bonuses.
The craft Jewelry decision event chain no longer grants Jewelry, Scepter and Crown all at once, but is instead biased towards giving you artifacts you don't already own.

Books:
Added the Castox Booklet module!
- The Way of Kings (Owned by Dalinar)
- The Way of Crusader Kings (Owned by Jasnah and Sadeas)
- The Diagram (Owned by Taravangian)
If your character is illiterate, the book font will be set to the Women's Script.
Illiterate characters also cannot pick the scholarship or theology lifestyle focuses.
Characters who are allowed to read by their faith are literate. Otherwise, you can secretly learn to read via a decision.

Non-modular GUI:
Added investiture income breakdown to the hud tooltip.
Negative monthly investiture now properly shows in red in the hud, and doesn't display as "+-5.0"
Added a display for the target's investiture in the character window.
Reworked Radiant GUI so that you surgebind from the Surgebinding Chart, and you have more Radiant gear customization.
Main menu theme song set to The Darkeyed Musician's "Song of Secrets", with permission. Credits go to http://www.thedarkeyedmusician.com/

GFX:
Added a Highstorm particle effect:
- Every 440 seconds a 20-second pulse generates a highstorm in the east, which moves at a speed of 1/400th of the map width per second westwards.
- The visual effect is currently only visual, and the exact position of the stormfront does not affect gameplay directly.
Removed vanilla environmental effects that were drifting west-to-east.
Added Singer Carapace as a singer headwear.
Brand new eye and species icons (Thanks Castox!)
Having a specific eyecolor variable will now actually change your character's eyecolor.
Updated the Purelake holding models with extra long stilt legs so that they poke out of the water even in the deeper parts of the Purelake.

Localization:
Fixed some base game localization problems.
Added a bunch of new Game Concepts.
Added more dynamic trait tooltips so that they reference game concepts.
Added a lot of new UI GFX to go with the game concepts.
Added Rosharan candy for childhood events, such as Ice Crem and Crem Brulée.

Bugfixes:
Accepting dueling requests from the AI should no longer crash the game.
Massive performance improvements, especially for those on an HDD installation.
Selecting Elhokar's realm no longer randomly moves your camera to Azir.
Playing in observer mode no longer slows down the game by furiously writing gigabytes worth of gui-based error logs.
Adopting feudal ways no longer only generates cities.
